Remington 6 1/2 primers... what?

I have used only WSR's up to this point for .223 ammo in semi autos. Never had an issue.
Well I was getting low, so went to the store to get some... no WSRs in stock, so I got some Rem 6.5 small rifle primers. I now see on the side of the box, in *very* small print, it says something along the line of "don't use these primers in high intesity cartridges like .223 Rem".
Uhhnn... what? Remington SR primers can't be used in the .223... Remington?
Any reason for this? Is it really unsafe/do I have to return them?

YES!
Return them If they will take them back,(I doubt they will). DO NOT USE THEM IN .223. They are made for the 22 hornet, jet and other rimmed 22 centerfire cartridges. I destroyed an AR boltface because I didn't know this. The primer will pierce at the edge of the radius, causing a hot jet of gas to hit the boltface, cutting it like a cutting torch.
Use the Remington 7½ primer, it is made for .223, some consider it a substitute for the CCI mil spec primers.

Wow... thanks. They should really put that on the box in much bigger type.
I believe they had 7.5 primers as well, but I did not get them because they said "benchrest".... and I speculated that maybe they were more sensitive to lighter primer strikes from light match triggers (if that is the case)? And we all know about the free floating firing pin the AR of course.
So you say the 7.5's are ok to use in an AR?
