Shotgun primers

Just a word of caution for anybody using CCI shotgun shell primers, they have quite a poor standard of uniformity of depth between the primer cup and the stainless steel firing cap. This can result in partial discharge of the primer and subsequent poor powder ignition or total failure to fire a shotshell at all. The obvious way to tell that it is the primer is to check the firing pin indent on the primer, a shallow one is the usual observation. Cheddite or Remington primers seem to have better quality control and the optimum depth is around 3/1000 in. Anything over 7/1000 in is getting dodgy.
