QUESTION: Is the reason for replacing the original extractor on a Rem 700 bolt with a SAKO extractor for enhancement or repair.

Both. Some think that the origional extractor is a weak link and need to upgrade. All parts can and do wear and break.

Installing a claw extractor needs to be done only by extremely competent gun plumbers. I've seen more than one jacked up.

"...needs to be done only by extremely competent gun plumbers...seen more than one jacked up..." And that's being polite. Think in terms of fitting Chevy parts in a Ford.

That was the info I was looking for. I have a customer that keep's asking about this process I, for one, have never heard of it, nor do I want to attempt it. I'm one for if it's not broke don't mess with it.
:banghead:It remined me of the kid that wanted me to order a spendy MagPul sniper stock for his tricked out CQB weapon. I think the CDIF ( chicks dig it factor) clouds the young mind some times.
Again. Thanks for the info.
