Hi, On Budsgunshop.com they have a Smith and Wesson .44 mag revolver. It's a M29 3" barrel for $575 delivered, plus transfer to you local FFL. Has anyone had any expierence with this model. Also it says Blue Glass Beading, how does that compare to regular Bluing? Thanks!

Appears to just be a 29-10 with a bead-blast matte finish instead of the normal high-polish blue.

Should make it cheaper, but looks like it didn't!

I bought a Bounty Hunter. Not from Bud's though...unfortunately. (They don't ship to my part of N.Y.)

Anyway, the Bounty Hunter is a blast to shoot!!! A real flame thrower!! :D

Its small enough to carry on a hike in the woods, and a lot of fun to shoot. No regrets buying it! Besides, S&W only made around 500 of them, so it's got a little bit of the rareness factor!

I checked out Bud site and he does have a few S & W for sale. I picked up off of GunBroker.com a S & W Model 29 6 inch blued (make my day) 44 mag in great shape for $600, and that is one hell of a weapon. Love S & W

Finally broke down and bought the m29 "Bounty Hunter" Beautiful gun. Great trigger. As someone else mentioned the grip screw was over tightened. So far I have only run .44 Specials through it. Winchester Silver Tips. Very nice!!!
The gold writing is pretty low key.

Any advice on a good leather holster for concealed carry on it?

I have one of these as well. It is a lot of fun to shoot and I have a weakness for 3" big bore revolvers. I picked mine up from Buds when they were running a special for THR members at $525 delivered. I also had to back the hand grip screw out a bit. I prefer fairly mild loads on this revolver as a full house .44 Mag load has pretty substantial recoil. I did run some 325 grain Hornady loads through that thwacked the hand pretty stoutly. Running those loads through a full cylinder as fast as I could I was able to keep all rounds within what I'd figure to be the head and shoulder area of a bear at 10 yards. I also had a blister just beginning to form on my trigger finger from the recoil of those 6 rounds! :what:

As far as a concealed carry holster, I'd recommend getting a hold of Rob Leahy at Simply Rugged to order one of his Sourdough Pancake holsters. That is what I'll do when I get around to it. I didn't get this for a concealed piece as I have other guns for that purpose. His holsters are great for regular carry as well.

The $575 would be a super deal for a new 4" 629, much less a new blued specialty piece. The bead-blasted blue job is a satin low-lustre. They are pretty - kind of a special piece. Bud's includes delivery at that price, too - not bad.

Don't loosen the strain screw, it is not an adjustment. Doing so will invite, especially in this heavy recoil revolver, continued loosening and ftfs. That screw needs to be all the way down to be tight - S&W will file it and call it 'tuned' in the 625JM & 627 Pro, at least. The lowered spring rate is better. Simply replace the main spring with a Wolff full power - and perhaps a lower power return spring, too. Save the OEM springs. Break-in should improve the smoothness, too.

That's one blued gun that interests me. I don't know why, it weighs a hair more tham my 4" 629, and is certainly not a CCW. Still, congratulations on a neat revolver.

The screw in question is actually the grip screw. It seems many examples have the grip screw tightened to the degree that it protrudes out the left side of the grip and into the hand on that side. Failing to adjust it would invite a nice gouge in the hand.

I have a 629 Backpacker which is a stainless version. I love it and carry it in a Simply Rugged Sour Dough Pancake holster. It shoots great and is pretty darn accurate. I have the S&W 500 Hogue grips on mine right now. They sure tame the beast with heavy loads.
