Last week, I took my younger brother out shooting for the first time in his life (age 19). He was visiting me for a week, and we went to a big gravel pit in the NF near here.

We brought all sorts of fun things and had a great time. It turns out that he's a whiz with a pistol. He was consistently shooting shotgun shells from 20' with my MkIII 22/45.

The other pistol that I have, though, gave me a hell of a time. It's a S&W Sigma in .40 cal. I have heard plenty of both criticism and praise for these guns, but have always personally enjoyed mine. Here's what the problem was:

I'd load up a mag, put it in the gun, chamber a round, pull the trigger, and....nothing. No resounding spring noise, no nothing. I'd drop the mag, eject the shell, try again....nothing. Then, every once in a while, one would go off, seemingly randomly (under control, on target, etc.)

Then, at some point, it all started working fine, and I put about 150 rounds through with no other malfunctions.

Any thoughts on why this might be happening?

its 1 of the issues with that gun... the spring is getting kinked... ill have my gunsmith log on later and sort let you know the actual details!
