Well, it's that time of the week again to contemplate another tenant in the vault. Today's theme is the beater Jeep gun and the starring player is the 16" Winchester 94 Trapper.

I will probably be lugging it mostly for hunting (drew buck in UT and hogs locally). I have a 300WinMag Model 70 so I figure the 100 yard or greater shots are pretty well covered. As much as I love that rifle, it does get to be a mite burdensome trudging around and I've lost at least one 6 pointer trying to get a quick shot off at a bounding deer.

To "plug this hole" in the collection, I thought a fast handling lever gun like the 16" Trapper would fit the bill. Now, I know I could probably just use a 18" shotgun with slugs to take both deer and hog at close range, but I don't have a levergun yet.

This rifle will also be drafted to do duty for plinking and varmint control around the spread. The 30WCF is the classic round for the 94, but it seems to me that the 44 magnum might meet my needs just as well. I am NOT inclined to worrying about how to stave off bands of marauding bandits or how available ammunition might be in a SHTF scenario.

Your considered thoughts and helpful opinions are greatly appreciated. Additionally, what are you all carrying for a jeep/truck gun?
