I am new to cap and ball revolvers and I was wondering if it was possible to shoot sabots out of an 1860 colt army made by Uberti?

Maybe, but there'd be the issue of the sabot transiting from chamber to barrel, through the forcing cone, without having it tear or blow out of the cylinder gap slightly. That's why we don't use a patched ball in a revolver (they're sort of an early form of sabot). Wonderwads make it through OK, but that's a little bit different-- by the time the wad hits the gap, the ball is already in the rifling. Then again, if you want to shoot smaller balls, go with a Navy or Police revolver. If it's more velocity you want, there is the Colt Walker or the Dragoons, just waiting for you. Then there are the BP single shot pistols, which you can load with sabots if you have a good reason.

If you think about this question you have a rotating cylinder and 6 chambers usually of a smaller diameter than the barrel compressing the sabot's plastic shell, then the bore smaller than the lands...I'll make it simple it won't work...
Sabots won't work in a rev...Muzzleloaders only straight breech.

Rev's sabots would be called cartridges... like .45 long colt.

Hope that helped...

gaucho 750 ~ That UBERTI is a fine gun. Omnivore and SG gave 'U' some good advice. :) :p;)

For your gun, the .454" dia. ball is the best IMO.:D

Hey SG; Miam is north of me about 80mi. Both are right up against the Arkansas Line, at the foot of the mountains you might say. You can travel 15 miles west from here, and its pretty much typical Oklahoma prairie.

SG; no timer. That's my better half taking the pics. She's a better shot than I, so she doesn't need the practice.:D:D:D
