I've always been a fan of Lighthound.com

I've gotten some amazingly good conversions off of ebay out of China.

I have 2 Surefires a 6p with a Q5 bugoutgear dropin, you can get one here
http://blackforce.stores.yahoo.net/crq5drmo.html
I also have a G2 with a M60L Malkoff dropin. You can find it here
http://www.malkoffdevices.com/shop2/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=1_8&products_id=8
The Q5 has a 230 lumen output with 3+ hours runtime and the M60L has an 140 lumen output with a runtime of 4 1/2 hours.

You can't go wrong with either one.

I was planning to buy Surefire brand conversions and didn't even think about another brand being available. Are the others as good or better? (Does Surefire even make conversion kits?)

Any particular brands better to pick out?

Wow - in looking at those, $50 to convert a $60 flashlight to LED? Am I reading this right?

Thanks again.

Okay, I found this Surefire for $40:

http://www.midwayusa.com/eproductpage.exe/showproduct?saleitemid=931374&t=11082005

Is it not as bright as the others that have been posted? I'm assuming there's a reason they are more expensive than the Surefire brand.

Thanks!

The Surefire LED drop-ins pale in comparison to the ones made by Malkoff. I've never used some of the other Cree drop-ins available through various venders, but the Malkoff is amazing, and it's made in America by hand, and he offers world class customer service.

Yes, $50 may seem a bit absurd, but when you consider that it's only $10-$15 over the Surefire product and you get much better output, spill and throw (depending on what you select), then it is worth every penny spent on it.

I'll never part with my Malkoff M60 and M60L. Using the original Surefire P60L is almost a joke to me. I love Surefire, but I love Surefire more once it's kicked up a notch or ten. It has to be seen to be appreciated.

riceboy,

Thanks for the info. That's a good endorsement. I'll probably place an order.

Thanks again.

As a flashaholic and CPF member for years, I agree 100% with this assesment.

Skip the Surefire drop-ins and buy a Malkoff unit.

Kestrel,

Good choice. Trust me, you won't be sorry once you get it in the mail. The other plus is that all his drop ins are on sale through the end of the month. Gene Malkoff and his wife will be out of the shop this upcoming week, but if you place the order before the end of August, it shouldn't be a problem.

Oh, and if you haven't found it yet: www.malkoffdevices.com
