I have one. It works. I wouldn't count on it to prevent theft, but it does keep children away.

child deterrent.

note the word, deterrent. i used to pick locks on my file cabinet as a kid. it held just my own stuff, not my parents' stuff, and it was in my room, and i had the keys. i just used a small swiss army knife to get into it. kids can get into anything the older they get.

thieves, on the other hand...........

I have one. I used a laptop locking cable through one of the holes in the safe to tether it to the bed. I figure any serious thief is going to be able to cut that and take off with the whole safe.

Mostly I figure it is a cheap way to keep the kids away from the gun inside. I'm not so concerned about my kids, but guests.

Academy has some electronic safes with finger grooves sort of like the Gunvault safes but at much lower prices that are probably a better plan, and only moderately more money.

I have one too. Got it and mounted it to a shelf in the closet so as to be in compliance with the law while I am not in the house. That is, all handguns under lock and key to "protect" the kids.

My other option was a lock on the plastic case in which the gun came, which I stored in a dresser drawer. Unlock at night, lock in the morning before going to work.

BurningSquirrels had it right - those things are deterrents at best. Give me a paperclip and ten minutes, and it'd be mine to plunder. :D

i know not all kids are ready for it, but when i was young - my dad gave me 'the talk'. he then kept it in a drawer in his dresser. i knew never to fool with it, nor any gun after the talk. when it comes to kids, education always works. until then, there are only deterrents.
