Another reason not to license illegals

Thank you so very much for your Aug. 6 editorial "Unlicensed aliens." There was one more danger hidden in the SB 60 bill (California driver's licenses for illegal aliens) that Gov. Gray Davis and the Legislature seem to have ignored: A driver's license and a utility bill showing the buyer's residence in California are practically all that is required to purchase a firearm in this state. Therefore, issuing driver's licenses to illegal aliens will facilitate another crime: violation of federal and state gun laws that prohibit any possession of firearms by persons illegally in the United States.

It's a disaster waiting to happen.

Can you say, "More gun control, please!"?

Can you say, "California FOID Card to the rescue!"?

Don't worry, Ahnold will take care of it.

Sounds to me like what he is really saying is we need to kick the illegals out of Kali, a position I generally agree with. I took it personally when I got laid off and found out somebody had used up all my unemployment benefits (which I paid in) with a phoney SS card under a different name in another city. Not to sound racist, but the name read to me under which I supposedly drew all that money was distinctly mexican.

Point is, I tend to agree that giving driver's licences to illegals is the height of stupidity. basically, what we are saying to them is that to one branch of the government (the INS) you are a lawbreaker they would like to arrest and deport, but on the other hand we will give you a driver's license so you won't be driving illegally as you run from them and your stay here will be more enjoyable. This really has gotten out of hand.

I don't know if this is a real piece of proposed legislation or not, but providing a DL to an illegal is simply legitamizing a crime.

That's one of the ways they get jobs, by using someone elses SSAN with their false Green cards. It's pretty common in these parts.

Have you checked your credit report lately?

Assembly Oks Bill Allowing Illegals To Get Drivers' Licenses (http://fox40.trb.com/news/ktxl-090203driverslicense,0,6207551.story?coll=ktxl-news-1)

The Bill Would Allow Undocumented Immigrants To Submit A State-approved Form Of Identification To Apply For A Drivers License

September 2, 2003

SACRAMENTO -- A bill that would allow undocumented immigrants to obtain drivers' licenses, an issue that has worked its way into the debate surrounding the attempt to recall Gov. Gray Davis, passed the state Assembly on Tuesday.

The legislation, by Sen. Gil Cedillo, D-Los Angeles, would help undocumented immigrants get drivers' licenses by allowing them to submit a federal taxpayer identification number or some other state-approved form of identification (Matricula Consular ?) to the Department of Motor Vehicles instead of a Social Security number.

Cheap labor is the most expensive of all—but it gives votes to leftist extremists.
