Slow connection to THR?

For the last couple of days, THR threads have been very slow to load; the general forum page is quick, and so are the individual topics, but single threads sometimes (80%) take up to 20 seconds to load.
Is anyone else experiencing this problem? I'm on cable modem, and all other internet sites seem to load just fine. Blown out my cookies several times, no joy.

i've had that problem too, my roomate (a computer nerd) probably said it was too many people logged on to the server and responding to messages. i usually close and then re-open internet explorer and if that doesn't work then i'll just log on later.

Yeah, it's probably all the hard core posters logging in at the same time.
Or maybe, to the tin-foil-headgear types, it's a sinister NWO/Illuminati/United Nations Black Helicopter Brigade plot to trace us all down . . .
In any case, I'll bet they'll move this thread to Technical Support.

Yes, noticed even on a very high speed connection. For the price we pay to Oleg for this service, I'll never complain!

Ok, thanks; I just wanted to know if it was my ISP.

Same here at work on a DSL and at home on Roadrunner. Like Mr. Bowman said, you gets what you pay for.

Yep. I have to click on a link 4 or 5 times before I don't get a page not found screen.

Time check 3:35 pm edt, Sept. 3.
I too, have seen the slow page loading over the last few days.
Seems to have noticeably improved in the last 10 minutes of so...whatever you guys did appears to be a good fix.
Just a heads up.

Click... wait... stop... click again... wait... stop... click again... wait... page shows up a little at a time... et cetera.
I have to wonder whether some anti-Second Amendment bigot might not be fooling around with this site.

(from 2 other friends not on my ISP, ) our traceroutes have shown that the problem seems to lie only in the network node inhabited by the Highroad,
(as of 7:30pm, Pacific time, )
..... Where's that tinfoil hat smiley? :what:

I also have been experiencing the slowness problem, however, since I am none too fast myself, I just accept the delay and use the time to formulate responses to threads I do gain access to.
Oleg has given us a great place to exchange ideas and express opinions. What more can we ask?

something is seriously screwed up with the forum
is someone running a DNS attack on the server?
are other sites served by the same ISP seeing page load issues?

If the problem is hardware and/or software, I'd be ready, willing, and able to chip in a few dollars to help, or even become a dues-paying subscriber.

Ditto what Standing Wolf said .........
It sure has been real sluggish of late ... was a time when the speed was near amazing!!! getting lot of error 404's ....... tho could be partly my firewall ...... but overall ........ very much a shadow of former self!!

It's not your firewall. It's affecting everyone. It's being looked into.
(It's the perennial THR-gets-slowed-down-to-curb-our-addictions event. :) )

Same problem here. Both on dial up and the T1 at work. Error message I get is usually server timed out. Sometimes have to try two or three times to load a thread.
"View new threads" link is usually OK, but once it loads I have the problem going into a thread, or when I click at the bottom to go to the next 25 threads.
Same as everyone else, it seems to have only come up in the last week or so.

Sent e-mail to Webmaster.
In many instances I get a "The Page Cannot Be Displayed" window. This happens in all forums while changing pages, posting, and especially editing.
If I edit, I will get a blank page when I update the post. I then have toi refresh the post -- sometimes twice. It then will take me to the "update successful page but never gets back to the thread. I then have to refresh again and the thread comes back.
If I am posting, many times I get the "Cannot Be Displayed" page. Also happens when I try to PM.
Using 2.0GHz HP Pavillion with 256M SDRAM on a dialup and Windows XP Home Edition.
Any thoughts -- anyone?

Starting last night around 8PM central I was unable to access THR from home at all. Ping's simply timed out. Same this morning from home (cable modem, no problems accessing other sites). I can get to it from work. How very odd.

It ain't www.thehighroad.org that's the problem... it's a bit upstream from there, folks....
P95Carry
September 5, 2003, 08:51 AM
Oh yeah .. it's upstream of course ...... strange tho how a server can be so efficient and fast and then slow down so bad ....... it's like something else is eating up huge bandwidth .. like a ''denial of service'' problem almost!
