Im not really in the market for a new CCW/What have you gun, but have been throwing around the idea of getting a Sig..

Ive stumbled onto a LNIB 200 ST (full stainless frame/slide) with Nights for around 625$...probably 600$. Its very very nice.

Ive also tripped over a 229 in 40 with Nights and in almost as good of condition for less than 550$.

Im not even sure why I want another gun presently but these are in the running.

The gun would be for CCW/Target/Possible future USPCA/IDPA style shooting also.

Who has a working knowledge of the 220 ST.....????????

Let me know your opinions....Ala Dan...Ya I know you couldnt wait for me to do a thread like this.:what: :neener:

Shoot well and thanks

Greeting's PCRCCW -

Wow! I can't believe it? You are actually considering a SIG!

Both the P220 and the P229 are great firearm's. As
you know, I prefer the .45 caliber SIG P220A; over other
types of firearms. However, I have no experience with
the stainless P220ST; but I'm sure its another winner!

As to .40 caliber weapons, I'm just not sold on the
caliber? I've owned a P229 in .40S&W; and I could
not hit the broad side of a darn barn with it! Most
likely, it was my fault; and no fault of the weapon?
After all, I was having a bit of difficulty seeing back
in those day's; but with new shooting glass'es I
can see much better now.

Between your two choices, I would have too go with
the P220ST. That's an attractive price for that weapon
anyway.

40 S&W is probably a fine defense caliber but I do not particularly enjoy it as a range/fun/target/plinking caliber. For me, 357 SIG is a more satisfying range caliber and I get better accuracy with it.

The 229 is an excellent pistol in both these calibers and if you get a 229/.40 it is easily convertible to 357 SIG with a drop-in factory barrel and then you would have both.

The 220 ST is another fine pistol. It will be heavier but it will have a slimmer grip (single stack) so the ergonomics will be quite different. Even the standard 220 is a pretty mild shooting .45; the heavier 220 ST should be milder still.

I don't know whether .40 SW or .45 ACP is more advantageous for IDPA games, but between these two calibers I prefer .45 ACP.

I was in the market for a "new" carry gun. After much delibreation I chose the Sig P239 in .357Sig. great gun. Good luck with what ever you choose.

Man, I wish I had your luck.

Since this won't be a CCW piece, I'd go for the P220 ST. You're paying $100 less than the cheapest price I've seen around here. That's too good to pass up.

While the P229 is probably my favorite Sig, you can find it everywhere at a variety of different prices. Get the ST while that price lasts.

That is a SICK price on an excellent .45!! Go for it!! I personally own and enjoy very much my 229 in .40. However, a 220 is in my future!

Wow,
Those are both good deals. The basic P220 is really good and only needs cheaper good 8 round mags. Good 10 rounders would counter the 1911 Wilsons. The P229 is also really good, and handier, with .357 Sig capability.

The P220ST should shoot better than the P220, and I haven't heard or read of any problems.

Dunno which I'd go for.

All SIGs are great but the P220ST goes beyond a great SIG. It is one of the finest guns I own or have owned or have shot ever.

The P220 is the epitomy of double action .45s and the 220ST is the best of the best.

Go with the 220.

Go with the 220.

What he said. :)

I love my P220. The ST's look nice. Not enough to get me to buy another one mind you, but they do look sweet.

But basically you won't go wrong. Pick your calibre first, that will greatly narrow your choices.

I'm guessing he is talking about the additional weight that the 220ST has. The extra weight settles the gun down during fast firing.

It's not that the gun will shoot better, as that would be a feat, it is that the extra weight might mask some of the shooters issues or problems hence making it a bit easier to shoot.

I agree with cslinger. While the extra weight is a real drag for CCW the P220ST really shines whether its target shooting or when its in full song. So if weight isn't a huge consideration P220ST all the way.

I really had my doubts before I shot the P220ST. I didn't think the extra weight would make that much of a difference but now I think its a small price to pay for its superb performance. And with a little bit of grease between the rails the action is as smooth as a Beretta 92 but has all the qualities I like in a SIG and shoots .45's. It is the most pleasant handgun I've shot in any defense caliber. I was already a SIG fan before the P220ST but this model certainly cemented it for me.:D

edit: Well, I guess you already decided. You'll love it!:p

Speaking for the entire group of poster's to your thread-

You are certainly mighty welcome!:D And we wish to
"thank you" for your consideration to purchase a world
class firearm, such as the SIG P220ST!:) We hope you
enjoy it very much.

I would check to see if the rails on the P220ST are new or old style rails. The new Picatinny style are much more versatile while the older style are more proprietary and basically useless :(

That is a great price on that model though. I love my standard 220 and have caressed an ST model more than what would be called, "normal, curious examination..."

I love the single stack SIGs.

cslinger, can I ask a rookie-SIG-owner question???

P239TT

What does that "TT" suffix indicate?

I've owned a 239 in .40 since April and love it!!!

Thanks for your help! :)

P239TT (Two Tone) Nickel Slide on Black Frame

What does that "TT" suffix indicate?

In SIG terms, TT means "Two Tone", ie, nickel finished slide, trigger, controls, and black frame.

The 220ST is the perfect 45acp pistol. The weight really does make it a quicker shooter than the standard 220, although after you own the ST, you'll definitely want an aluminum-framed version for CCW.

Ahhhhhhh Sigs.... :) I want to play with CSlingers collection. I only have one. They are like rabbits. They will start breeding sooner or later.

For a combo target/CCW pistol, get the P-229 in 357 Sig, with a .40 barrel.

For a CCW pistol, get the P-239 in 357 Sig.

I got the latter and couldn't be more satisfied.

May I suggest the 228
