Friend of mine found this in his stepmom's garage. His words:

"We were going through my stepmom's garage when we found the shells and clip for one of the Bofors guns from his AC-130 in Vietnam. Of course, since he wasn't allowed to send war material home, he declared them as 'Four 40-millimeter brass vases with vase holder.'"

8mm Mauser ammo is shown for comparison. :)

Well, one good thing, you aren't going to be beat up on the thread about the improper use of the term "clip". ;):D

No, I think that is a clip...

four, 40mm brass vases:D

I was at an air show, and a couple of pilots were outside their warthog with a duffel bag full of brass vases, 20mm I think. Selling them for 10 bucks a piece.

Oh my.

I don't get it--does the AC-130 just shoot massive bullets? Or do the rounds explode? I never quite understood how artillery worked.

Ah yes, the old 40 MM anti-aircraft cannon. We used to have those on the A model AC-130, got to see a live fire demo one night while in the Reserves at Duke Field. They loaded every other shell as tracer, fascinating to watch those dotted orange lines coming down in a black sky. Talk about ground rattling!

can we call that a hi-cap clip?
I have a lot of friends who fly on gunships...I should ask them for some flower pots!

Some of the stories I've heard in my Air Force travels indicate that the enemy will run from regular C-130's because they know the pounding a gunship can bring.

The 40mm on the Spectre are still anti-aircraft cannon. They'll turn an aircraft into an all-day barbeque.

Those look like the rounds we used in Montana for deer hunting. Your average Montana deer would brush off your .30-06 like it was a tickle. We have to use gunships and large artillery pieces for deer.

Don't get me started what we have to use for Elk. The recoil is just almost unbearable.

We also have to use 40mm grenades on the prairie dogs up there. I saw one eating a barn one day, and opened up on it with a 30mm Minigun from an A-10. Took almost the whole load to bring it down.

It's true.

You found a photo of my Antelope gun. Wow, I haven't been Antelope hunting in years.

I'll have to take it to the range and sight it in soon.

My range is North Dakota.

Sorry, that no longer qualifies as a mini ;)

Excellent choice on the Yuengling.

If it weren't for limited distribution, I'd have a fridge full.

Neat. I have an old 75mm case from WWI,( yes one). My uncle by marriage gave it to me, back in the very late '50s early 60 when I was in high school. His father had brought it back. My dad had a wood lathe, so I turned a "projectile" out of a piece of oak for it, and it is setting in a corner of my living room in sight right now.

Quick someone come up with a way to bait the Antis into believing Jennings has a new "Saturday Night Special" coming out in that caliber .

I bet Paul Helmkey at Brady and Obama take it hook line and sinker !!

I like how you included the hub cap in the lower left to give some scale to the photo but I'm not sure it stands out enough for everybody to notice it. Maybe a brighter color or an arrow pointing to it?;)

Ohio Ordinance has an L60 40mm Bofors receiver made by Chrysler for sale. Their asking $18,500. Its registered its amnesty registered from 1986 as a machine gun (machine guns override the destructive device category altogether).

Actually 40mm is one of the best arteliery pieces for civilians to own since brass, powder, and projectiles are about as common as it gets.

You should buy it! :D
