Has anyone here any experience with these Marlin .22 autos? One is blue; the other stainless.

I gather they outshoot the Ruger 10/22, and the prices are usually quite reasonable. I don't want a gun to modify and accessorize; I just want to add a 'scope and a sling, load it, and hunt/plink!

Thoughts?

Thanks,

What; no response? I thought these were fairly common!

Thanks, Oleg. I'd read those posts, most of which didn't pertain specifically to the M795/995. The Model 60 is similar, but not identical.

I guess that the many people who must buy these guns just don't post here. www.RimfireCentral did have a good response that I've since seen. But the Marlins don't get many questions there, either.

I have a 795, and I like it. Go with the 795, detachable mags rule! Is fairly accurate, lightweight, durable, easy to maintain, has an ok trigger. And it is really cheap, I've seen them go for $100. Mags are usually about $10, but I don't think you can get any mags bigger than 10 rounds. My only complaints are the cheasy scope rail and trigger group. There are 2 screws that hold the trigger guard to the rifle, and these tend to shoot themselves loose. Also, unless you use considerable mounts of LockTite, your cope will steadily creep back while shooting. I reccomend a Tacso 4X15, they're about $10 and are pretty good for what you pay. And this may seem like overkill, but I often use a bipod with mine. I just remove it from my Mini 14, and put it on my 795. It takes about 30 seconds. If you want to spend a little bit more, look into the Marlin 2000. It is exactly like the 795, just it has a longer heavy target style barrel and no iron sites, and it's supposed to have a better rail than the 795.

Thanks, Natedog! You may want to check that post I mentioned at RimfireCentral; the guy making it addressed how to get the 'scope to stay put. He also explained how adjusting triggerguard screw tension could in effect free-float the bbl. although I can't vouch for that.
