Of the 5 candidates on the panel tonight, only Arianna Huffington sounded the most dangerous. It's too bad Ahhnold declined to participate, but I was still glued to my TV during the whole thing...Bustamonte just sounded like Gray Davis Light.

...yes, but Bustamonte has been known to pander...er, speak in Spanish to the perfectly-legal-voters-who-cannot-speak-english of this state.

I was not terribly impressed by any of the canididates, though Schwartzenegger probably would have made things worse. I dislike intensly Mclintock's position on abortion, but other than that I found myself swearing less at him than the other prospects. Huffington is...out of the Twilight Zone or from beyond The Outer Limits. And the Green Party are, well, the luddite socialist facists that they almost always are.

Just to clarify the candidates positions on gun control.

MYERS: THIS QUESTION IS JUST TO ASK YOU YOUR OPINIONS ON GUN CONTROL ISSUES, WHEN IT COMES TO OWNING A GUN IN GENERAL OR THE TYPE OF GUN THAT CAN BE OWNED, AS GOVERNOR, OR THE TYPE OF AMMUNITION BOUGHT, AS GOVERNOR, WOULD YOU SUPPORT MORE OR LESS RESTRICTIONS.

MCCLINTOCK: LESS RESTRICTIONS. I BELIEVE THAT PEOPLE HAVE A FUNDAMENTAL NATURAL RIGHT TO DEFEND THEMSELVES AGAINST VIOLENT PREDATORS, THE RIGHT IS ENSHRINED IN THE SECOND AMENDMENT TO THE U.S. CONSTITUTION.

CAMEJO: I SUPPORT THE SECOND AMENDMENT TO THE CONSTITUTION BUT I AM FOR MORE RESTRICTIONS.

UEBERROTH: I GO TO LAW ENFORCEMENT AND -- THEY ARE THE EXPERTS RIGHT NOW. I WOULD LEAVE IT LIKE IT IS AND NOT SUPPORT ANY CHANGES.

BUSTAMANTE: I SUPPORT THE EXISTING LAWS. WE'VE BANNED ASSAULT WEAPONS. WE MADE SURE THAT WE HAVE TRIGGER LOCKS. I WOULD LOOK FOR BETTER WAYS OF BEING ABLE TO MAKE SURE THAT THE WEAPONS ARE SAFELY IN THE HANDS OF PEOPLE WHO SHOULD HAVE THEM AND I WOULD LOOK FOR WAYS OF BEING ABLE TO DO THAT, IF THERE WAS A WAY TO DO IT BETTER, I WOULD LOOK TO DO THAT.

HUFFINGTON: I WOULD SUPPORT BOTH ADDITIONAL RESTRICTIONS, AND BETTER IMPLEMENTATION OF THE EXISTING LAWS.

The debate was a dumbshow. McClintock is a rational man in a time of Unreason; he can't win. Schwarzenegger didn't have to show up. Everyone knows the Election comes down to the Mesomorph versus the Mexomorph, and the real issues are largely unvoiced.
