Well, went to a walmart down the street (like 1 mi away) and went up up to the sport dept. counter (where I could see some ammo boxes behind the glass behind the counter) and asked if I could see the 9mm ammo they carry. The reply, "Oh, we don't carry anything but rifle ammo, there's some ordinance that prohibits handgun ammo within Milwaukee city limits. So much for me getting that cheap white box winchester nearby. Now I tried to find a law/ordinance about this but came up empty handed so far, so I can't confirm if this was really a city limit law or just walmart policy. Anyways, I thought WI had a law on the books saying cites/townships etc can't pass gun laws more restrictive than state laws, but nevertheless that pisses me off.....On a good note, the guy behind the counter piped up as I was walking off and said there was a very good shop to get ammo just outside the city limits, so I'm glad he had a clue. I didn't have much time during my visit so I wasn't able to pick his brain about the city limit ban thing for handgun ammo.

Shoulda told him it was for an MP-5 rifle. He wouldn't know the difference.

Yes Wisc has a pre-emption law preventing any local laws/ordinances that are more restrictive than state law--

And yes you can buy handgun ammo in City of Milwaukee--
