Someone posted a thread on THR recently regarding some less-than-conservative
statements by the head of the RNC. I believe it was published in a NH newspaper.

Can someone post a link to this thread - or article?

Much thanks!

If they're socialists I'd hate to find outwhat you think of Democrats.

Is there any question about it? Bush hasn't yet seen a spending proposal or a handout that he didn't like. Clinton wishes he could have spent as much on welfare of one form or another as Bush is getting away with.

GOP, MIA:
Taking the road
most traveled

This editorial originally appeared Sunday, Aug. 31.

HAD THERE been any doubts about the direction the Republican Party is headed, they vanished last week when
Republican National Committee Chairman Ed Gillespie visited New Hampshire.

During a cheerful and pleasant meeting (that?s the kind of guy Gillespie is) at The Union Leader offices, the
party?s new chairman, energetic and full of vigor, said in no uncertain terms that the days of Reaganesque
Republican railings against the expansion of federal government are over.

No longer does the Republican Party stand for shrinking the federal government, for scaling back its encroachment
into the lives of Americans, or for carrying the banner of federalism into the political battles of the day.

No, today the Republican Party stands for giving the American people whatever the latest polls say they want.
The people want the federal government to tell states how to run local schools? Then that?s what the Republican
Party wants, too. The people want expanded entitlement programs and a federal government that attends to their
every desire, no matter how frivolous? Then that?s what the Republican Party wants, too.

The party?s unofficial but clear message to conservatives is: Where else are you going to go? To the Democrats?
To the Libertarians? They don?t think so.

The political philosophy of retaining power by doing whatever seems necessary at the time isn't socialism.

It's fascism, plain and simple.

fascism and socialism are so similar the differance really isn't worth quibbling about in my mind.

Fascism and socialism are terms that presuppose certain identifiable beliefs which in turn lead to a system of beliefs.

I can identify no consistent belief the republicans are willing to stand for.

At least democrats believe something even though it is dangerous to life, liberty, and property.

Republicans are scarey in that their sole belief is the acquisition of power. . . .just like a former president we just got shed of.

Sad to say, you're right.

As often as I receive solicitations from the Republican party, they go directly into the trash, and the political contributions I used to send it are now divided between the N.R.A. and the G.O.A. I remain a registered Republican, but haven't been impressed of recent months, and may have to resume voting Libertarian.
