I just acquired a used H&R model 949 (.22 lr) and was wondering if anyone dould describe the manual of arms (how to safely handle) this weapon. It loads like a SAA but the trigger is DA as well.

There is a less-than-half-cock notch for the hammer. When carrying it, pull the hammer slightly back, like an 1/8" or so, and it'll click. Then, you can bang on that hammer and it won't fire. That's about as complicated as it gets with these. Enjoy the gun; they're great shooters.

I own a M949 and it's a great revolver. It's fun to shoot and easy to clean. Like said above, pull the hammer back to the first click and it is totally safe.

1973-1986....The revolver has a transfer bar system for safety.

Original version (1st Model 1961 - 1972) did not have the TBS system. 2nd Model 1973 and on did.
Serial number or simply the letter prefix to the s/n will tell what year it was made.
