I've been considering adding a Nagant revolver to my collection. It would be my first wheel gun. Can anyone tell me anything about them, specifically their ability to accept suppressors? Thanks guys.

You'd have to have the barrel threaded. Don't believe there are many suppressors out there that would be suitable, if any. You could possibly use a .30 caliber suppressor for a rifle. The DA pull on the Nagant is beyond atrocious. They are loaded like a SAA, one cartridge at a time. To make it into a truly decent suppressed weapon would take a lot of time and money.

It's possible to improve the DA pull on a Nagant through this modification (http://www.surplusrifleforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=71&t=56731).

As you probably already know, the Nagant M1895 is one of, if not the only, revolvers ever made that can be effectively silenced.

The "Bramit Device" was designed to use with special ammunition. Good luck finding one.

In 1929 the brothers V.G. and I.G. Mitin (Β.Γ. Митин and И.Г. Митин) applied for a patent under the name “Revolver for soundless shooting utilizing the principle of directing the bullet through washers of increased diameter”.

The revolver with the silencer device required cartridges of special construction. In the case of a standard revolver cartridge was a bullet of smaller diameter (probably 5.6 or 6.35 mm) backed by a special washer (sabot). The additional muzzle cylinder mounted on the muzzle of the gun had an opening corresponding to the caliber of the bullet small enough to catch washer. When shooting the bullet with the washer moves through the barrel, but was then caught in the supplemental cylinder. The washer plugged the exit through the supplimental cylinder and the gas was retained in the volume of the barrel. This hopefully blocked the exit of powder gasses.

During the return of the cylinder of the revolver to retracted position, the cooled powder gasses escape, making no noise. On the next shot, during the hammer cock both the revolver cylinder and the supplemental cylinder move through 1/7 revolution. After firing all seven cartridges in the revolver, the shooter had to empty the spent cartridges from the cylinder and the washers from the supplemental cylinder.

The patent was obtained for the soundless revolver on 28 February 1931.

Yes, yes you can suppress them (http://www.thehighroad.org/showthread.php?t=374460) :)

PTK used a Cobra 9mm suppressor for his.

Yep, YHM Cobra 9mm silencer. The videos I have REALLY show how quiet this dang thing is. :)

Video 1 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vvF4yurWSc0)

Video 2 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ud_Os0WWpFg)

It's accurate, quiet, and simply requires proper 7.62x38R ammo - which is the most accurate, AND it's only $23 or so per 50. I usually buy 500 at a time, as this is a very fun pistol to shoot at the range, both silenced and not.

EDIT: Before I forget, the HotShot 98gr ammo is subsonic as-is, and the cases simply fall out of the gun when reloading. Reason for the second part is that I simply cleaned the chambers very well before doing much else. Also, note that in the video where I film the gun closeup in my hand, I am shooting that DA, without issues, one handed. No mods were done to the revolver, that's entirely stock. :D

it is a fun revolver to shoot, I enjoy mine, and I am actually rather accurate with it. The SA mode it is a very fun to shoot gun, the DA is not nice to modern standards, but one can do it with one finger without too much problem. (In fact, as per another thread, I can do it 42 times in 30 seconds or 20 times in 10 seconds.)

Think I need a 1933 Mosin for my 1933 nagant.

Okay, but you didn't mention the awesome stopping power.....:scrutiny:

Just kidding. I'm going to have to take my ugly Nagant (sorry, is that redundant?) to the range just to see how much fun it is. Videos are really cool, thanks for posting!

you know, I had about 10 women and or girls who said my Nagant was "cute".

Yeah, women do tend to like them. Nabokov's wife kept one in her purse. He called it her "black stone of seven deaths."

very true Cosmoline, I had it liked by even anti-gunners as "cute"

Nagant means "cute" in russian...
