i currently own an xm15 with the a2 upper and im looking to go flat top so i can mount my eotech on it. the dilema im having is rather to buy just the upper with no barrel or buy a complete upper. what are the advantages/disadvantages of doing this ??? ive heard about possible sight problems if i just changed the upper and use to same barrel.

Buy a quality upper componets and you acn avoid the majority of the problems you mention.

Depending on the condition of your A2 upper, your could maybe sell it and buy the one you want with a few extra dollars and save some headache.

Camp out on AR15.com, and you'll find what you need a a decent price, you'd better act fast on that though.

If you have the tools/time and inclination you can buy the components and go from there. Me...I'd just get a new complete upper if I wanted to change something, just a matter of preference.
