45Guy August 26, 2008, 12:43 AM You guys & gals here in Non-Firearms Weapons are bad influences on me, and I'm pretty sure on each other too. I just picked up a Case Sodbuster Jr. (very nice, extremely sharp) based on what I read here, and I have a half page list of knives that I'm interested in getting at some point. All thanks to you guys:) Oh well, it's still cheaper than buying more firearms, and more useful to me day-to-day than a firearm.
I'm pretty sure that list will be growing, and I know that you all will give your sage advice on anything being considered. It seems like most people here have a higher knowledge base and experience base with edged weapons. Your insight is much appreciated.
Thanks for bringing me into a new hobby, knife collecting :D

Todd A August 26, 2008, 01:05 AM Yep..just stick with Case brand for your slipjoint needs.
And remember old yucky USA Schrades are not worth your time or money.
(I don't need any more competion)

ArfinGreebly August 26, 2008, 01:20 AM What is that thing lower left?
A 4-blade Stockman with punch?
Hmm, no, it doesn't have a sheepsfoot.
Oh, man, what IS that? And do they still make it?
Zip7 August 26, 2008, 01:35 AM Oh, man, what IS that? And do they still make it?
64047P - It's one variation of a 47 pattern stockman - 3 7/8" long. They did make some pen blade versions of that pattern - there's a 3 blade in that pic too. The 4 blade w/ punch model always has a pen blade and the muskrat shape clip
I have a couple of them. They are hard to find with no issues - they have a tendency to have a weak blade or two. The one pictured below is almost perfect, but not red bone.
They don't make any of the 47 patterns anymore. Truthfully, the handiest one is the 2 blade one.

bikerdoc August 26, 2008, 07:41 AM Welcome to our world
sm August 26, 2008, 12:09 PM 45Guy started it...

Arf is again running around, and drooling all over the darn place, carrying on and ...
Would one you Admins please check on the boy?

Breathe, Arfin, breathe :D
JTW Jr. August 26, 2008, 07:44 PM ahh why fight it , just give in...

http://members.cox.net/spannerboy1/Erickson/Img_8527.jpg
I mean , really now , how can you have just one ?
http://members.cox.net/spannerboy1/Erickson/folder%20group.jpg
then start with the pouches so you can carry em all...
http://members.cox.net/spannerboy1/Dscf4682.jpg
what ?? you mean it gets worse ?
http://members.cox.net/eki_karambit/Img_8262.jpg
and then you start on the fixed blades....

bikerdoc August 26, 2008, 07:52 PM Like Todd, Schrades are my focus but I never met a quality knife I didnt like.
And I even like some B and C list knives.
It just goes on and on.......
auschip August 26, 2008, 10:10 PM I notice the Doctor's knives don't get much love around here, but they tend to be my favorite slips.

Of course, that still doesn't get into customs. Talk about a whole other mess of trouble. :what:
hso August 26, 2008, 11:37 PM Thanks for bringing me into a new hobby, knife collecting
You say that now.
45Guy August 27, 2008, 12:05 AM Hahahaha hso. Probably going to regret saying that in little time.
Oh well, it oughta be interesting :D
sm August 27, 2008, 12:19 AM Oh well, it oughta be interesting
Yep.
There is collateral damage involved too.
Speaking of which, has anyone checked on Arf?
Hang on! Its gonna be a wild ride!
Todd A August 27, 2008, 04:36 PM Soon, when you realise that you have an illness you won't be laughing.

My focus on Schrades didn't last long. I have Camillus,Case,Imperial,Boker,
Robeson, Ulster,Craftsman,Sta-Sharp,Wards and Western made slipjoints as well. Plus a few fixed blades and "tacticals" laying around.
Be sure to keep us informed of your spiral into addict...ummmmm :uhoh: I mean collection progress ;)
bikerdoc August 27, 2008, 10:21 PM How can "investing" in fine knives, no longer made, and which will probably increase in value be an addiction?
At least that what I tell the wife!
Among ourselves we know better.
45Guy August 27, 2008, 10:38 PM Bikerdoc, I don't think even that'll work know that I put a Beretta Bobcat on layaway.
I'll try it anyway :D
Blofeld August 29, 2008, 11:53 AM JTW JR., what is the little tiny push dagger looking thing with the lanyard in the fixed blade photo?
JTW Jr. August 29, 2008, 01:05 PM that is a Ken Brock " hole knife ".
It was made from the remants of the pieces that were waterjet cut from the handles of the Hideaway Knives if I recall correctly. I got it from him years ago. It's small and hides nicely in a coin pocket.
Ken Brock September 27, 2011, 10:38 PM Hey John, I wish I still had the blanks available from the Hideaway knives. They get the most requests of any knives that I've made
JTW Jr. September 27, 2011, 11:38 PM Dude ! Where the hell you been ?

You should seek professional help. I'm way past it.
Actually it's not too bad till you get here...
http://i188.photobucket.com/albums/z271/reloader1959/slipjoints/shelf.jpg
Then you decide you really like barlows and end up like this...
http://i188.photobucket.com/albums/z271/reloader1959/slipjoints/barlowsfam1a1.jpg
Then you move to the stockman
http://i188.photobucket.com/albums/z271/reloader1959/slipjoints/stockmen.jpg
next you start looking for the unusual like this high art Case...
http://i188.photobucket.com/albums/z271/reloader1959/slipjoints/case/32991.jpg
Then you see a chunk of stag like this and decide you really don't need to eat for awhile...
http://i188.photobucket.com/albums/z271/reloader1959/slipjoints/bulldogs/stagbull3.jpg
Then comes the curse of the customs...when you reach this point you need to just figure it is all over...
http://i188.photobucket.com/albums/z271/reloader1959/customs/cust1a.jpg
btw...always happy to see another fall under the influence of the slipjoint knives...when you start spending as much time looking for and building displays as you do looking for knives themselves you will know you are well and truly in the brotherhood. I will add what is in the pics is probably about 25% of my collection....I am a very sick man...
22-rimfire September 29, 2011, 10:40 AM Gosh, and I don't even own a sodbuster. You must listen to Carl Levitian. Good guy to listen too. :) Where is Carl?
My advice is... take it easy and steady as you go. The list will change from month to month and year to year. There are so many available these days that it's hard to keep up with things.
maximumdarkside September 29, 2011, 11:44 AM It's funny, when you go on a thread and it turns into a picture thread, and then you start going have that one, and that one, want that one, never seen that one!
Anyways now I've started listing some of my overflow to possibly get more, lol.
So maybe it wasn't haha funny as much as uhoh funny.
Ken Brock September 30, 2011, 07:35 PM hey John! just been working and stuff man
my day job takes up quite a bit of my time but I'm still banging out knives as much as I can
