I am looking for a little help with a new rifle, plan to reload for my new Savage 12F Class 6.5X284 Norma. Rifle has a 30" barrell, 1 in 8" twist.
Does any one out there reload for this rifle that can recommend everything, Dies, powder, bullets etc. thinking of using Hogdon Benchmark (got a lot) and probably 140 grain Hornady Amax (like the Amax in my BMG), and looking for die recommendations too. Hope this wasn't too much for 1 thread. Thanks
Keith

Good advice, bullet and Jayhawk.
KeithK, I can get good performance from Benchmark in smaller calibers (.224) and 30 caliber with lighter bullets, but I've never had it perform well in 270 or 7mm, at least in my rifles. It's worth a try in your 6.5 because it meters so consistently, but you'll have to experiment to see if it shoots well in your setup. Best of luck.

I shoot F-T/R which limits me to .223 and .308, but I hear and read what the F-Open shooters say about 6.5x284. So, for what it is worth, Benchmark is WAY too fast for the round. Many shooters use 4350 or 4831 (usually H, sometimes IMR) and I see there is getting to be some interest in the new Re17.
Pay a visit to http://www.long-range.com/forums/index.php?act=idx and see what they say.
Note that Long Range target loads often exceed powder company recommendations.
Y'all be careful, now, you hear?
