Arsenal? What Arsenal?

August 26, 2008, 07:46 PM
When I had one firearm ... my wife knew I had one firearm. When I had two, they were easy to count. Three was three as well.

Above three (or four) then my wife started to say, "What do you need all those guns for?"

All those .... once she stopped using the number of firearms I had and started using the term 'all those guns' I knew she had no idea how many firearms I actually owned.

After that, it was easy ... get a new one, walk in with it and say, "Just got this back from being re-blued - looks new, doesn't it?"

So - from having one or two, this is where I am now ....

When does a 'collection' become an arsenal anyway?

once she stopped using the number of firearmsThat's when you have got her. ;)

At least that is what we believe. :uhoh:

Really though, they just humor us. :)

How are you going to talk her into that safe you need now.

When big brother decides...
Nice guns. I don't own or ever have owned any kind of a gun or weapon...ever.

August 26, 2008, 07:50 PM
haha....Hoping to get to that day soon. Don't really care if my wife knows I'm pulling one over on her or not, as long as I keep getting guns. :D

When the press gets wind of it. :banghead:

August 26, 2008, 07:53 PM
Oh - I thing there are four missing .... one rifle, one shotgun and two handguns .....

I wonder where they are ......

August 26, 2008, 07:55 PM
Man, this is a "gun room", nice choice, I think you can say "arsenal", but I would say that this is just a big collection.

August 26, 2008, 07:55 PM
When you post a picture of them on the internet. Hehe

I would love to see the look on a Brady bunch member's face if they accidentally walked into your "tool room".

Well, you've got a good start there.

August 26, 2008, 09:21 PM
I guess that Iím one of the lucky ones. My wife couldnít care less what I drag home from the gun store. :D

August 26, 2008, 10:00 PM
Nice setup. I wish I had some dedicated space to do the same.

1..2..3..4.. nahhh it's an arsenal when you lose count.

Where'd you get the launcher? 37mm gas, right?

Well you're golden now - at least until she walks into your little batcave there - then you're screwed, blued, and tatooed! :) Oh, you crazy pathetic guys with wives. The appropriate response to any challenge to your guns by a wife is - "Why are you here blabbering and not in the kitchen getting me a beer?" [I can say that because I'm not married] :)

August 26, 2008, 10:26 PM
Sneak past the wife? Yeah right, get my arse chewed out for not taking her with me! I go gun shopping, she goes too, no if and or butts to it! I pick out one, she finds 2 or 3! her excuse," mine are smaller and cheaper" she says, and smiles at me. Man am I a sucker or what. Jewelry? no, she wants tools. Fancy clothes? no, she wants a new gun,(or used gun) did I mention she is a tomboy? Did I also mention she is 4'9" tall and 106 lbs?? And can't pass the ammo counter without picking up something. HELP, I created a monster. kinda nice actually...

My wife would say"looks like the start of a nice saveings account"

I lost all my guns in a tragic boating accident.

August 26, 2008, 10:46 PM
If she ever walks into the gun room and gets mad you are more than welcome to send some of them to me to appease her:evil:

As every self-styled "journalist" knows, "arsenal" is the plural of "gun."

August 26, 2008, 11:01 PM
When you move and find guns you don't remember buying,,,,, It's time to cut back.....LOL

August 26, 2008, 11:58 PM
-- Ask her how many pairs of shoes she owns . . .

"Why do you need all those guns?"

"It's not the 'Bill of Needs.' It's the 'Bill of Rights.'"

If you can stow them with open spaces in between, you're not "full" yet.

Where'd you get the launcher? 37mm gas, right?

I worked for the Virginia Dept of Corrections for years ..... nearly a decade after I left I became friends with a guy that was an armorer for one of Virginia's Super-Max prisons. He had a gas-gun that he bought from a gun store that bought it from the State (actually he had more than one) So he sold me one.

I kept it for a year or so, decided I didn't need it and sold it.

About 3 years later I saw one on gunbroker and bought it.

I don't have any rounds for it, because if you have rubber baton, wood baton, or rubber buckshot, you jump from becoming a non-firearm straight to being a destructive device

I might pay the 200.00 and register it as a DD, but I haven't decided for sure yet.

Oh - it is a 37mm

Nice guncabinet.
When does a collection or gunsafe become an arsenal?
This is of course a matter of semantics, but still, here are my 2 cents on the question.
The difference between a collection and a arsenal is a question of intentions. If you have 50 identical AR15s for your own enjoyment, then they are a collection or "gun safe" if you have 50 different guns, from a 10/22 through singleshot shotguns and other hunting rifles, up to more military useful weapons, and of considerable value for a collector, but your intention with these guns is to arm a militia, then they are an arsenal.
Of course, in the eyes of BATFE and the MSM everything beyond one .38 revolver, one 20 gauge shotgun and one 10/22 is an arsenal.

are those handguns riding on steel hooks shoved down the bore?

I'd be somewhat leery of rifling and crown damage...

August 27, 2008, 11:22 AM
Where did you get the thumbhole/ open stock for the 700?

August 27, 2008, 11:33 AM
The heck with the firearms. Do I see five "cans"?

Anyway, buy a safe, please.

August 27, 2008, 12:02 PM
Kind of looks like one corner of Dad's gun room. Still, very nice.

August 27, 2008, 12:06 PM
"When does a 'collection' become an arsenal anyway? "

I think it depends on how much ammo you keep around for your "collection", or having many instances of the same weapon. I know my wife started referring to my office as "the arsenal" once I was past my first 5 91/30's.

August 27, 2008, 02:53 PM
are those handguns riding on steel hooks shoved down the bore?
They are those little steel pegs from the local hardware store. They are straightened and covered with vinyl tubing (like fishtank hose)
I am very careful not to push them all the way on to the crown and I am the only one to remove and replace them. So - I think it is a good way to store them.

Where did you get the thumbhole/ open stock for the 700?
That is a Richard's Microfit "Tack-Driver" Silhouette Style

The heck with the firearms. Do I see five "cans"?

Anyway, buy a safe, please.

:) Do you want me to take them out of the vault that has 10" steel reinfoced concrete walls and put them in a gun safe? Or put a gunsafe inside the vault? Just kidding, you couldn't see the steel door in the photos.

The answer on the cans is 'yes' .... hense the handle "WhisperFan"

August 27, 2008, 03:14 PM
Nice collection Whisperfan, especially your collection of cans...

I hope that your wife doesn't have the combo to your gunroom, if she ever decided to count them, you may be in for a stern lecture.;)

One question though, I notice that you store your pistols by racking them at the muzzle with regular steel pegs. Don't you have any concerns about damaging the muzzles by doing this?

Just looking at the pics of your little "toyroom" put a big smile on my face! That's gotta be one of the nicest "G-rooms" I have ever seen ! I think the only way it could be called an "Arsenal" is the remote chance that it were shown on the evening news. :(

August 27, 2008, 05:06 PM
You need at least one AK.

August 27, 2008, 05:07 PM
Never, an Arsenal is where firearms are made and repaired.

You are giving into is Anti-Gunner definitions that would have a Ruger 10-22 and a case of ammo (5000 rounds) being the scary arsenal DO NOT fall for it.

August 27, 2008, 05:11 PM
Correct, although it is commonly used in place of the more proper term "armory" for storage. An arsenal CAN be for storage along with manufacture and repair facilities.
