Today - there are approximately 173240 Michigan CPL holders.

This is from the MCRGO (http://www.mcrgo.org/mcrgo/default.asp) wesite homepage.

Hard to say, since some states dont require CHL's.

Does anyone know about NY?

Active:

~300,000 GA
~650,000 PA
~210,000 MA

FL, TX, LA, and NC I have stats for somewhere but don't recall them from the top of my head.

Your not going to find any for NYS because its up to each county to devise policy for their applicants. NYS doesn't compile those numbers because it has nothing to do with the issue of the license.

Ask Mrs. Brady, she will throw out any number that suits her and will add that there are too many out there.

"Florida has issued over 1.2 million permits."
"Distribution by age is generally proportionate to the overall state adult population. In Florida, 26% of permit-holders are in the 21–35 age group, 36% are 36–50, 27% are 51–65, and 11% are over age 65. The numbers of permit revocations are small. North Carolina reports only 0.2% of their 263,102 holders had their license revoked in the 10 years since they have adopted the law.[44]

Permit holders are a remarkably law-abiding subclass of the population. Florida, which has issued over 1,346,000 permits in twenty years, has revoked only 165 for a "crime after licensure involving a firearm," and fewer than 4200 permits for any reason. [45]"

Florida is a great state as long as you don't have to pay for home owners insurance. :)

I believe the nation-wide number is around 4 million. Of that total only about 40,000 are in my home state of California. San Diego county, where I live, only has about 1700 licenses for about 3,000,000 people!

My guess would be that issued NON-LEO CCW is in the range of 7-10 million.

It would average out to 150,000-200,000 per state.

I think 150-200k/state is low.

PA's got a pop of 12 million, and 7% of that is like 850k...

As of 12/07 there were 288,909 active licenses in Texas. The stats come out at the end of every year.

Texas makes pretty detailed demographics public too; breakdown by race, sex, age, location, etc.

It's averaging around 30,000 a year growth for the last several years.

I am 3 all by myself; Texas, Florida, and Connecticut :)

Something like 6 in all of Hawaii, and that's looking back about 8-9 years AND assuming that all are still active...me, I'm waiting for my UT non-resident to come in the mail.

How interesting.

Some states have far less licenses than I imagined: VA, UT, AZ, TX, LA, NC. UT and TX and VA are shockers!

I thought GA's 300k was lowly given the culture here but I have to reconsider seeing how few licenses are issued in other gun friendly states.

Somewhere on my laptop I have a figure for MI. While I can't quote it from memory, it is also much lower than I'd imagine. OTOH, WA surprised me with how many CCWs there are there.
