I tried to submit a reply, and it apparently was closed while I was typing. The odd thing is (the thread looks just fine to me) whoever closed it didn't give any explanation. Is just mentioning the word "Obama" enough to get a thread closed? Or was it something else?

Probably because it was going to turn political and go down hill...

OK, Justin just added a post that he closed it, along with a dubious explanation. That's fine with me; just closing with *no* explanation seems like another type of "drive by" like y'all ordinarily hate so much. I was confused.

When a thread needs to be closed, a mod will usually close it before adding a comment in order to stop the carnage ASAP.

I guess I never caught one in transition before. Thanks.

After reading the OP, I can say it seems like the type thread that would turn negative in a hurry. It seems a good call. Adding the explanation later on...that was a real classy thing to do. :) It's always good to have mutual understanding, even in privately owned forums. Kudos.

So true! I recall an instance where I didn't close a thread before posting a closing notice, and I believe I took some time editing the closing post. After final posting I found that there was something like five additional posts added, posts which then had to be deleted.

The hardest part about the mods is know who is working. So many times i see a doomed thread and you cant find anyone on duty.

Supposed to be some type of many virus things that can
ruin your day. Had a hell of a time attempting to locate
Pats Loading to order some cases. By accident got into some
kind of a suck in security progarm that was supposed to block
irritating crap and virus. The Viagra stuff came in and would not
allow entery to this site or previous stored sites. No response from
the idiot who set this up when an attemp to contact was made.
Had to go to Spyware Doctor and pay $20.

I got banned once (on a far right political forum) in the middle of typing a comment.

That was a weird experience.

There are some overly strict mods here, but not as bad as over on 1911.org. Also, I'm glad they don't let people run wild like at glocktalk.com

A Mod over at 1911 removed a post I had added to a for sale gun because the thread starter never returned any of my or other's PM or anything. So when a few of us questioned it, it got removed and we got "warnings" and ponts. Then they PMed me and threatend me not to post it on any other forums.

I feel they were over stick and a bit bullying. Here are bits of what they sent me in a PM.

You have been warned for one of your messages (posts, PMs or emails), which violated The M1911 Pistols Organization Forums Site Rules. The reason you have been warned is because:

You used the flea market to offer an auction, or a sale without disclosing a fixed price, or another rules violation other than blatant commercial activity.
(Warning Type = Wrong Usage in Flea Market)

For this violation, you have been given : 3 point(s).
The point(s) will remain in your account for 60 days.
After that, they will be removed automatically.

Warning Points at the moment are: 3 point(s).

If you reach the maximum of 10, you will be banned from the Forums, for 7 days.

To see details about all the warnings you have received, until now, please click here.

Please reply back if you have a dispute. Also please note that your warnings, warning points etc, are not shown to the other members, only to you.

Finally, please note that discussion of your warnings in a public forum is not allowed. If you want to discuss your warning with the moderators team, you may do so by replying to this PM and explaining your issues.
