I'm looking for a spotlight which I can run off of A/C power, which will illuminate a 300 yard target brightly at night from the bench.
I have seen xenon spotlights on barges light up trees from over 1/2 mile away, so I'm hoping there is something a little less powerful on the consumer market which will work for me at this distance.

Most night shooting ranges use lights set out at the target. You can buy standard "work site" lights, but then you need AC connections at the point of use.

Why not one of those 10,000,000 candle power units with the wall wart just keep it plugged in until you need it. I have a older 7 mil one and used it in the AZ desert one night while camping out to check out a noise, n it lit up everything for close to a 1/4 mile.

Or just get a LED headlight and set it up to shine on the target from 6 feet away.
They will run forever on one set of batteries.
Or an 18 volt rechargable drill worklight.
BTW: Round these parts, the law would come & shut you down if you went 300 yard target shooting in the middle of the night!

The problem with just illuminating the target from a few feet away is that you can't see what is going on along the flight trajectory. That means not being able to see a lot of what is down range from the shooter other than a very small area, that which is illuminated.

Night vision scope? Seems like a good justification to buy another toy. But really some sodium vapor lights would work. That's the kind they use at sports arenas to illuminate the field. The light combined with the gunshots would probably get you a lot of trouble though.
A nightvision scope and using a subsonic suppressed weapon would definitely be really cool at night.

Me and my buds predator hunt with a 15 million CP Cyclops. You can light stuff up from an unbelievable distance.
Cabela's has them and the price has dropped since they came out.

I posted a similar thread over on the Candlepower forums, one specifically devoted to spotlights.
I was told that the best light for this under the $2500 range, is the Mega Illuminator. It's a 35W HID spotlight.
I have one of those 10 million candlepower lights, and I can barely see the 300 yard target with it. It will light a distance 600 yards away, but the light is very dim at that range.
