Just got a new knife (Ontario RAT 5) for my car emergency kit :)

I am a little disappointed with the finish quality.
The handle seems to have some burn marks from the buffing wheel (see photos)

Is this common appearance for knifes with Micarta handles?
Something I should be disapointed with for a new knife?!?

This knife is going to be a worker, so I plan to 'put some marks on it', but I would like to do it myself rather that a new knifes that comes with some wear.

Thoughts?

No, that's not what you should see.

Shouldn't affect the blade or edge at all. Take some 500grit paper to the burn marks to clean up the slabs and use the knife. Report back here with how it performs.

For what its worth, Randall Adventure Training and Ontario Knives were going through a little legal spat. It wouldn't surprise me if Ontario was a little lax on the fit and finish of their RAT knives because of the pi~~ing match between them and Randall. Check the RAT section at BladeForums for more info.
