Vanderbilt Guns. Where are they?

Hiya.

I was just thinking about my summer vacation back in June. One thing we did was take a day trip out to Biltmoore because Jenn had always wanted to see it.

I saw that one of the rooms that we would go to was the "Hunting"/"Sporting" or something like that room. The room was decorated in hunting themes. I asked the guide if we would see the hunting firearms, and this got my attention...

She said that we would not because there are none at Biltmoore. She said that the builder (George, I seem to remember) was not a big hunter, but he DID have an extensive collection of hunting firearms. However, some time ago, they were lost, misplaced, sold, or something. They said that they've looked but have no record of what became of them.

Does any history buffs here have any ideas about this? It smacked as VERY odd to me.

Knowing Bill Cecil, Jr, as I do, I'd not be surprised to learn they are in his house now. Bill is one of Vanderbilt's great-grandsons and serves as CEO of the Biltmore Estate and House. He once was a serious combat hangun competetor and hunts on the Estate itself. He and his wife are good people.
