My standard loading for my .45 Colt is a 255 gr LRN FP bullet loaded to about 850 fps. Has anyone used this combo for deer hunting? The woods I hunt are pretty overgrown and a long shot is going to be 50 yards and most of my shots are under 25.

Have you tried the Winchester 225 grain SilverTip hollow points?

At 50 yards your load is sufficient. I load as previously posted 950 to 1,000 fps depending on bullet, (255 vs 225), because I can expect most of my shots to be in the 100 yd range. Beyond 120 yards I don't even take the gun out of the holster. Gotta love a revolver that will shoot a one hole group at 25 yards and 5" at 100 yards with iron sights. The old LRN is actually more accurate in my gun so I wouldn't change a thing if your gun is the same way.

Hey There:
I love the .45 long colt.
That load may be just a tadd slow but if it shoots good it should work.
I ran mine at about 1000 Fps. Sometimes more. actually I shot the Ruger to death. I loaded it hot for too many rounds and could not keep anything tight anymore . but sure was fun while it lasted.
I liked it better then the .44 mags.

That should be a great load. You should get a through and through every time and a dead deer w/correct placement. I use a 255SWC loaded a little hotter than yours, but it is not needed. put your round through it's shoulder and you've got a dead deer.
