Hi,

I don't currently own an 870 Express, but I was wondering, if I drill out the dimples in the shell holder tube, and add a magazine extender, can I revert back to the factory configuration, or am I stuck forever using the magazine extender?

THanks

i don't know this for sure but i think the old spring retainer that they used in earlier guns should work just fine

Doing what you describe, you lose both the retainer for the magazine spring in the standard configuration, AND the detent setup that helps keep the standard magazine cap from unscrewing in use. Several jury rigs will fix the magazine cap thing, like teflon tape on the magazine tube threads. The magazine spring you can just not worry about and remember to control the mag cap when you unscrew it, or spend a couple of bucks on the old style spring steel magazine spring retainer.

I quit buying new style Express guns because I got tired of bothering with them.

You're better off just buying one of the "home defense" or "tactical" express guns.

Remember that after you get your extension installed, you need to support the new magazine tube with a clamp to the barrel. I saw an unsupported extension snap off at the shooting range, the guy dropped it just right on the corner of a shooting bench and the extension and spring shot off.
