There is still a small string of hope left! This bill is being reconsidered!

(Sacramento-AP) -- The state Assembly is attempting to curb accidental handgun shootings in California with a new bill. The 80-member lawmaking body passed it earlier today, requiring new safety designs on semiautomatic handguns sold in the state beginning in 2006.

The bill makes gun manufacturers add indicators that show if there is a bullet in the chamber, or render the gun impossible to fire if the ammunition magazine is not inserted.

Today's vote sends the bill back to the Senate for agreement to changes, then to Governor Davis.
