I want to remove the front sight from a Husqvarna Model 640 barrel (in 30.06). The sight ramp is obviously soldered on but what type of solder was used at the factory? Soft or silver? Thanks,Jimmy

I do love the sounds of crickets chirpping.

Could be because nobody knows the first thing about what kind of solder Husqvarna used on a Model 640 front sight ramp.

But it really doesn't matter.

If it's soft solder, and you heat it up to 450 degrees or so with a propane torch, it will fall off.

Silver solder melts closer to 1400 degrees, and you will ruin the bluing before you melt it off.

Course, you are going to ruin the bluing one way or the other if you take the ramp off, because there isn't going to be any under the ramp anyway.

Removed the sight ramp. It took a LOT of heat so it was silver solder, however it did not damage the bluing. Not that that matters because I'm bluing it anyway. There is a 3''x 3/8'' spot of solder on the barrel where the ramp was. Just confirming what we all knew all along.
