Magnum Research

Maybe this has been discussed in this forum before, but I can't find it.
I am looking at purchasing my first pistol (9 mm), and I am looking at the Glock 17, Beretta Cougar, and the Magnum Research Baby Eagle. I have found a lot of information on the Glock, a little on the Beretta, but practically NOTHING about the Baby Eagle. Does anyone have one of these polymer pistols? Would this be a good starting point? Is the gun dependable? Are there any accessories?
Again, thanks in advance.

I thought the Baby Eagle was an Israeli-made pistol largely copied from the CZ75. I seem to recall that sometimes the magazines will interchange. www.cdnninvestments.com has Magnum Reasearch magazines. Other accessories could be a problem.
Are you sure the Baby Eagle has a polymer frame? I thought it was steel.
Of course, why not just get a real CZ75?

The Baby Eagle is a nice pistol @ a good price. I know 3 guys w/ that particular model and they do nothing but rave about it. It's a nice gun to start w/, learn from & expand from.
Hope this helps. Go check out www.magnumresearch.com

Magnum Research has a couple of polymer pistol models in 9mm. The MR9900RL is a full size gun with the barrel measuring 4.52" long. The MR9900BL is a compact model with a 3.64" barrel.

More later but the short story is I have a Baby Eagle compact polymer in .40 and to be 100% honest I really like it, but I almost wish I would have got the Beretta 9000S instead.
I'll give details later today after work

My father shoots a Baby eagle in .40 SW. Very accurate shooter... but it weighs alot more than my G22.
I would assume the same to be true of the 9mm varient.

I want to thank everyone who posted. After consideration, I have decided to get a Glock 17 instead of the Baby Eagle. It is only a little more expensive, and the number of accessories available is mind boggling. I know that I will be happy with my choice.
Besides, I would rather buy it from the local gun shop rather than the pawn shop. Nothing against the pawn shop, but I feel a little better buying a gun from a gun shop. Just my way of thinking.
Thanks again.

Almost forgot about this thread but I see it's handled itself.
BTW Fire, apples to apples I doubt that my poly framed .40 BE at 1 lb 10 oz's is that much heavier than your G22. Now the steel framed semi-compact .40 BE that I also shoot weighs noticably more.
All 3 are nice firearms however I have a feeling that my lady friend may inherit my BE so I can get a Beretta.

It was my understanding that the early all-metal Baby Eagles were made by Jericho and imported by Magnum Research. For a short period they were imported under another name as I recall and since then Magnum Research has begun importing more "normal" automatics :)

The Baby Eagle in it's various makes and models has always been made by IMI. It was first imported as the Jehrico 941 and has also been known as the Uzi Eagle.
The only difference I have found is the Magnum Research version has a slide mounted safty whiel the others sport a frame mounted. I find it interesting to note that the both of the Magnum Research versions still have the pin hole for a frame mounted safty and the owners manual does refer to a "F" model that is frame mounted.

They are all pistols originally known as the Jericho. It is an Isreali designed and manufactured pistol based on the CZ-75. It is still current issue to IDF and police as well as private carry. These have a well-deserved reputation for reliability and accuracy.
Baby Eagle is just a marketing name to take advantage of the Desert Eagle fame.

I was more interested in their polymer pistol. Is this still based on the CZ? I haven't ruled these pistols out completely, I just decided that my next gun will be a Glock.

The Jericho 941 (9mm and .41 AE convertible) is assembled by IMI largely from parts coming from Tanfoglio (Witness pistols, Excam, Springfield P9, etc.) It is a fair departure from the Tanfoglio guns in grip, rail length and appearance (having a family resemble to the DE), but virtually all parts swap, including mags. IMI contributes their excellent polygonal barrel. They came in both decock/safe models (same safety used on the Excam guns) and CZ style frame safety. The decock guns have no automatic pin safeties. Certainly one of the smallest hicap grips, smaller than the CZ.
The Jericho was sold as a convertible, while the Baby and Uzi Eagle were sold in individual calibers, .40 being offered later, than .45 more recently. A polymer frame version came out about 4 years ago at the same time the Witness Polys came out (extraordinary coincidence!).
These are good guns, usually considered to be very accurate. They have virtually no muzzle flip, due to the heavy frame and light slide. They are a bargain at $300 to $350, but of questionable value when sold for $450. They are very heavy, and a pain to carry despite their slim profile. Factory Tanfoglio or IMI mags have recently made it back down to $30 or so.
