Hi I need to know if a barrel off of a Savage model 10fp .223 heavy barrel will fit a model 11 in .223 tapered barrel. Shows what I know about savages huh. A quick response is needed as both are for sale in separate places. I really need a heavy bbl for p'dog hunting. Thanks for your help Mac.

I would say yes, the two actions are the same thread pitch and headspace the same. the only differance has been the trigger types and stock types.

Yes, the 10FP barrel will fit a Model 11 action. But the barrel channel in the stock will have to be opened up for the bigger barrel to fit.

Thanks a bunch, I thought it would fit, but hated to take the chance. Mac

from savage gunsmithing site

The shank diameter on Savage's standard calibers is 1.055" The Savage rifles chambered in Remington Ultra Mag and Winchester Short Magnum have a larger shank diameter. These measure 1.120" The outside of the barrel nut is the same diameter on both the standard calibers and the Ultra Mag - WSM calibers. All barrels are threaded 20 threads per inch. Note: Some of the first Ultra Mag and WSM rifles were made with the smaller diameter shank. The larger diameter shank barrels will have a step in front of the barrel nut.
