Okay I have it and the included instructions could use a little help.

I have everything installed but am confused on how far to press the case down on the swager button. Do I press until it hits the larger area of the button past the radius or press until the button bottoms out in the bottom of the primer pocket?

YES, but only do it once, then package it back up and return it for the satisfaction money back guarantee and hit Dillonprecision.com and order a Dillon SS-600 Super Swage. Even if you only do 100 cases a year it is worth 5 times what it costs.

Yes, press until the case hits the larger part of the button, or until the button bottoms out in the pocket?

Just adjust it until all the crimp is removed.
Any more then that and you will be bending the support rod.

BTW: It helps greatly to use a little One-Shot case lube on the primer pockets.

rcmodel, how do I know when all the crimp is removed? try to seat a primer? This is my first take at this and wanting to make sure it is done right.

I did a couple of LC brass last night and they all sat down on the button and almost touched the bigger part of the button base without even pushing them against the rod. They appeared to have a crimp ring but could these have been swaged and reloaded before. The case mouths looked to be once fired but someone could have reloaded them with out trimming, I guess.

What caliber LC brass are you swaging? If it's .308 or 30-06, and you have the Sm. primer button installed?

NO, surely not!! :D

The only way I ever did it was keep adjusting and trying to seat primers until it worked.

I am doing the 223 brass. It just not seem to be doing anything. I press really hard and the brass does not move any further down on the button. I mean it is almost touching the larger part of the button without even using the press.

A cordless drill with the correct size drill bit is much faster and easier. Look at a box of Ultramax or Black Hills reloaded ammunition and you will see that they are reamed not swaged. RCBS builds some good equipment and this swaging kit works, but, it is not worth the effort and aggravation when there are so many easier, faster ways to accomplish the same thing. Buy your brass from Scharch and it is already reamed cleaned sized and trimmed so all you have to do for the 1st loading is prime , powder and seat a bullet and they will take your brass in trade.

I just started using the RCBS primer pocket swager.

I just got a feel for it.

I put it on my Lee Breech Lock single stage press.

Works pretty good. I had to re-do about 3 out of couple hundred.

+1 on rcmodel of using lube in pocket.

It handy to have something around to do this work. I don't reload enough of these to warrant a Dillon, so the RCBS fit the bill.

MMSCRET What is the correct size bit for small rifle primers?

Yea, I figure it out. I screwed the stud all the way down (sticking out of the die body) so I could see what was going on. I slowly move the ram up and did not apply to much pressure and there is simply no where for the brass I have been trying to go. I then decided this LC 03 brass I have may not be crimped, could have been before but not now. So I dug out a bag of LC 75 brass and guess what. This brass sat on top of the button and would not slip down over it. I raised the ram slowly until the brass bottomed out on the button. Poped it off and it is now ready.

I guess my big revalation is if the brass slips down on the button it has no crimp, but if it rides on the top then I need to open it up by pressing the button into the primer pocket.

I've tried three different swaging tools, and by far the Dillon Super Swage is the best. Chewed through 1K pieces of LC .223 like nothing. Priming was a breeze as well.

As to the correct size bit? , I don't know, I have several hundred used and discarded bets from a machine shop. Most had been spun in a loose chuck or broken off in a drill hole and every one had been damaged in some way. I sorted and dressed and shortened and sharpened. When I ream cases I pick one and try it, I always start small and work up. Its all part of the thrill of figuring out how to do a job, sort of like estimating how far it is to good water when you drill a new well.
