I just heard from a buddy of mine at TWRA; the Hunter Education Facility and range on Hobson Pike will open on 10/18.

YAYYYYYYYYYYY!

Don't know what the fee will be yet, but it will sure be convenient, and a probable location for future THR TN shoots.

I hope so. But it was suppose to be open 3 years ago. I'll believe it when

I see it. Please post again when it is open.

I can't find anything about it on the TWRA web site but I'll be glad to see it open. It would certainly a lot more convenient to my house than Cheatham county.

Quick question - having never been to this place, where would it be on this map?

I too have been waiting for it to open. The website (which I can't find right now) said the range fee will be $4 for 2 hours for adults. I believe it's only open friday, saturday, and sunday to start and they will add hours based on how many people come out for the rest of the week. Don't hold me to the days open though.

It's not on that map, Bryan. It's north of Hamilton Church Rd. and south of the bridge, on the east side of Hobson Pike.

Exactly right around there.

It should open 10/19.

The fees will either be a membership fee of well I forget but the daily fees will be $4.00 per 2 hours so that ain't so bad in my book especially if it gives me a range less then 45 minutes away.

Very cool. I'll have to check with some people at the state govt for more details.

Here's what I know...the range is scheduled to open on Saturday, October 18th, 2003.

But here's the clincher, per TWRA General Rules, 1660-1-27-.03,
the use of FMJ ammunition is prohibited.

In case you haven't seen the range, it is called 'The Stones River Hunter Education Center' (http://www.state.tn.us/twra/srhc.html) and it is located off of Hobson Pike on the right just before you cross the bridge over Priest Lake going toward Mt. Juliet.

There are residential developments in close proximity to the range which
is why the use of FMJ is probably prohibited.

Of course, this rule may have changed as it was last in effect on
August. 14, 2000.

Do not expect this range to be like the Cheatham county range. Safety
will be paramount and Range Officers will be present at all times.

Usage fees are as follows:

Adult (16 years of age and older) - $4.00 per 2 hours.
Youth (15 years of age or less) - $1.00 per 2 hours.
Adult Annual Fee (16 years of age and older) - $100.00.
Youth Annual Fee (15 years of age or less) - $25.00.

(Youths under 16 years of age must be supervised by an adult at all times.)
