Will an 870 Express Super Magnum accept barrels from any 870?

It think I recall seeing somewhere that the regular 870 barrels will work for the Super Mag---just don't try stuffin those big ol shells in there though.

To use the 3 1/2" load, both the receiver and chamber have to be 3 1/2" capable. If you put another barrel with a 3" chamber on that receiver, it'll work with 3" shells. Same for 2 3/4" stuff.
Using target loads only, your receiver will work within gauge with any 870 barrel, TTBOMK. The reverse is NOT true. A Magnum chambered barrel will NOT swap to a 2 3/4" receiver and still work with Magnums.

A magnum chamber barrel WILL swap with a non-magnum receiver. You just shouldn't do it. You can put a 3.5" magnum barrel on a 2 3/4" receiver, just don't expect the shells to fee from the magazine or eject if you can get them to feed. The lockup mechanism is exactly the same, the difference being in the ejector (between the 2 3/4" and 3" receivers) and also the ejection port/bolt design of the Super Magnum. The bottom line is that if you have a nice trap barrel that's 2 3/4" only, you can put it on your Super Magnum receiver and shoot the short shells out of it, no problem.
