Just rented the DVD yesterday and recall he said (to the kid) that it was an eight shot .357mag.

However, I believe he loaded it with .38s.

Saw one of the 44 magnum revolvers he had in one of the Dirty Harry flicks on TV. In one of the sceens it was knocked out of his hand and was supose to hit a matress...it missed and went bouncing down the sidewalk. I think they should only be allowed to use stunt guns in the making of a movie!

Actually in the movie I believe he said it was a 8 shot S&W. I don't think he mentioned the caliber. Hence my question.

Eastwood's character referred to a .38 slug from his gun. That could, of course, refer to the ammo he used or the actual caliber designation of his revolver; it could even be acknowledgement that a .38 and a .357 are actually the same caliber.
