Anybody here use the Otis Cleaning system? Is there any real benefit from using it as opposed to the old fashioned bore brush/cloth methods??? I heard they improve accuracy, is that true as well???
I went to their site to inquire more, but I wanna hear actual people who have used it and what their thoughts are, plain and simple. THanks guys!

Jumping on for the ride.
Id like to hear if anyone has opinions on these as well, as I have been seeing these pricey kits everywhere!

I use the Otis system quite often. It is especially good for revolvers as it allows you to clean from the breech. Since I have a large quantity of conventional cleaning gear I tend to use that for cleaning semis and bolt actions, designs that allow for easy cleaning from the breech.

Cleaning from the breech is the only good thing about it; otherwise, the Otis "system" is a waste of money.

I use the Otis pretty much exclusively with all my autos and revolvers. An Otis kit even came with my .50 BMG.

-I like how it doesn't take up a lot of space in my range bag or on the workbench.

-Since the cable that the patch or brush attaches to is flexible, you can clean autos often without disassembling them. By guiding the cable through the ejection port, you can do a quick clean starting at the breach. This isn't too different than what boresnakes can do...and for the price of the Otis, you can certainly buy at least a couple snakes.

I had been looking for a small kit to replace my rods that were ruined during a move and just happened to think the Otis fit the bill. I'm happy with it, but I agree that the price should be a bit lower. I also am having some trouble finding extra Otis cleaning patches. They are different than the regular patches in that they have guide holes cut into them so they fit around the patch slit forming a neat wad specific to the barrel diameter. Not a HUGE deal, it's not like I can't modify regular patches to do the same but I'm trying to save time when I clean rather than spend it poking holes in cloth... I'd rather punch holes in paper! :neener:

Yes, I use the Otis system, I find it quite good. And yes, $40 for the multiple kit may be pricey.
I have picked up another pistol kit, so I just keep the brush on one, and the kit comes with a slot permanently attached, takes up very little space. Even though I don't usually carry it to the range.
I buy round patches from the local gun store, and while watching tv, I cut each one. Yet, I prefer Otis patches because they are thicker.
I recommend it.

I have the handgun version and very happy with it. It's flexible rod is great for barrel cleaning. I highly recommend their stuff...but I use MPro7 solvent and Hoppes #9 lube for my Glocks.

How good is the Otis bore cleaner that comes with the kit?

I found it to be a compact, excellent cleaning system. I use it when cleaning all my revolvers and autos.

I do not, however, use the bore cleaner/lubricant that comes with the kit.

I have used the Otis kit for a couple years. Pro- small kit fits everywhere, multiple calibers, easy to use with out disassembly of pistols, works well Cons- patches for system more expensive(I just use cheap patches), no way to remove a stuck caseing(has happened to me with rifle), the foam that held everything in place came apart and I tossed it now everything loose in case(easy to lose peices in the field)

I use it for the range or field but at home I still have full length one peice rods.

I have had the basic system (flexible cleaning rod aka Pull Through) for years now. It is the only way to clean many precision air rifles and I use the pull through for all of my pistols as well. I don't and have never used the solvents or other cleaning products.

I think the concept was portability,it is one hell of a nice kit to have in your pack, along with it I carry a Leatherman type multi tool that has screw driver bits, and a couple of allen wrenches or torx for your scope and mounts. If any thing happens to your rig out in the bush that this kit won't fix it probably needs to go to the shop.

If you get some of the discount cupons from Dicks, you can get the price down to 25 bucks which is a good deal on the multi kit like the Count posted.

I do use the brush that came with it, but you can screw on any you'd like.

So is the Otis bore cleaner not recommended?

I don't care for the Otis Ultra Bore™ it's a good cleaner but it does nothing for copper fouling

To Clarify; When I say the above I mean that Otis does a good job of cleaning the carbon funk out of your gun and it makes a nice lube.

But, after using it exclusivly for 2 months or so I happened to look at the bore of my gun in just the right light and flipped! I thought the whole barrel was rusted out.

So I went an got some Hoppe's and soaked the barrel for an hour or so the "rust " was gone and the patches I used to swab the bore came out bright funky copper green. I never used Otis Ultrabore™ again.

Sorry, I should have been more specific.

I meant the bore solvent in the little tube that comes with the kit.

Its small, its light and its easy to use, so I use it. The darned thing even came with a CD on how to use all the little doo-dads and such. I have even recommended it to guys who are being deployed to Afghanistan.

I have no comment on the cleaning fluid.
Haven't done any back to back tests.

Just as an FYI, I saw that Midway had Otis 3" patches on clearance sale recently.

I like it for my M1s. I suppose if you have only bolt action rifles it wouldn't offer any extra benefits, but for semi-auto rifles and revolvers it's terrific.

I never even tried the bore cleaner; just stuck with Hoppe's. I haven't had to use it, but the kit came with an obstruction remover for stuck cases, and regular patches can be adapted, you don't have to buy Otis patches.
