Just bought a Ruger 77-17 all weather from my friends widow. It's got a Leopold 3.5X10 Vari-X3 on it and the first five shots I have ever put though it are in the photo pick enclosed.
At 50yds I thought I moved on one shot and it showed on the group.

Do you plan on using your .17 HMR on elk? Just curious. :D Not bad groups. Now go shoot some varmints.

What brand of ammo did you use? Try all 3 brands, your rifle will like one better than the others. I have a Savage and it prefers the CCI best, the Hornady 2nd and the Remington last. It can do 1" to 3/4" groups all day long at 100 yards with the CCI.

I used Hornady brand with the V-Max bullets. The gun came with 1000 rounds for an extra $100. Paid $485 for the gun and scope, so I got a real deal considering the guns only had 1 box of shells through it. When I get a chance I may try different brands but if it shoots the same minute of angle at 100 yds I will be very pleased.

The Hornady's uaually do best in most rifles. Buy only one box of the Remingtons, I have only heard of one rifle liking the Remingtons.

Chronographed speeds of the three, the Remington was the fastest, Hornady was second and CCI the slowest, in the lot #'s I had.

Kudu, (I like the name)
I recently bought a 77-.17, I tooped mine with a Leopold 3-9 compact. I am truly impressed with this little cartridge. Now take yours out to the 100yd and even 200 yd ranges and you won't see too much difference from that 50 yd group. i can't wait to try this rifle out on my favorite varmint (prarie dogs).
