Anyone shoot 6mm x 45?

I saw this cartridge recently in one of the gun mags. It's basically a .223 necked up to a 6mm or 6.5mm. From what I read this is a good short to mid range catridge. Sounds interesting to me for target shooting.

Anyone have one, tried one, or have any feedback?

Thanks in advance

I know a shooter that tried it for high power competition. The .223 case doesn't have enough powder capacity to push the heavier bullets fast enough to get the BC benefits to make it worth it.

I played with the 6MM TCU 20 years ago, essentially the same thing. Good performer in the right applications. I settled on a 6 X 47 because of the slightly longer neck and slightly greater powder capacity. Look up 6MM TCU in "Cartridges of the World" for basic info.

I think Kimber used to make rifles for it. There is an article by Sam Fadala in a Gun Digest IIRC and he used it for pronghorn again IIRC.

I beleive he got 28-2900 fps with an 85-90 bullet. I wondered why no one chambered an AR in the round. Maybe they did. Who knows. Its sort of a nuetered (spelling?) 243.

I shoot an AR15 in 6x45, decent round for targets out to 300 yards, and I've used it for deer out to 100 yards. Beyond that, in an AR, it won't shoot a heavy enough bullet fast enough. It's really best when limited to around 70 gr. bullets, although I can stuff an 80 in with compressed loads of H322.

It's very easy to reload, very mild recoil and quite accurate.

Browningguy - where did you get the barrel, and where did you get the load data? What are your average groups at 300 yards?

I've got one in a TC Contender bbl... I haven't really played with it in over 10 years. I've dumped a couple of deer with it but prefer my 7-30 Waters for that. Truthfully it was an interesting cartridge in the Contender (and I've always enjoyed fireforming brass :D) but there are too many other more prevalent rounds that do the same thing.
