I own a Bersa 9mm. It is a well made pistol, but it gave me a hard time when I first got it because it frequently failed to feed rounds.

I finally solved the problem, and now it runs flawlessly. So understand the Bersa is not a bad pistol, it just frustrated me initially.

Bersa support personnel were great, and they had no problems shipping me replacement parts free of charge.

I have now put sufficient rounds through it that I trust it, and it serves as a bedside table gun.

However, Were I to do it over, I would get the Ruger for the reputation for dependability, roughly equal cost, and because it is made in the US.

I'm torn between the two. I really like both brands. My Bersa .380 has never failed me, neather has my .44 mag Blackhawk, nor has my friends P89.

Love my KP95. It has never failed in over 2000 rounds. It is not to big for me to carry and I find it very accruate. Regularly get 2" or less groups from 10 yards. For the money can not beat it.

The Ruger is a tank, has better warranty service, and you can buy quality hi-cap magazines for the Ruger for half the cost of the Bersa.

I was faced with the same choice, and picked the Ruger. I've had no reason to regret that decision.

I own a Bersa Thunder 9 and love it, it has never give me a problem with jamming,
I have seen hollow points be the cause of some auto’s to jam.

I own two Bersas and a Firestorm Mini 9(made by Bersa) and all three have been 100% reliable. I carry my Firestorm Mini 9 everyday.
I shot 1K through my Bersa Thunder 9
Fullsize with no cleaning or lube and had no problems.

I love what Bersa is doing these days: Coming up with decent looking guns that WORK, and offering them at low competitive prices. However, they're not where Ruger is at yet in that they're still playing catch up in reputation and customer service/availability of repairs if needed. I never want to have an issue with a weapon that requires me to contact the manufacturer, but knowing that it's there and strongly represented will sometimes make a big difference in the way I spend my money.

I own several Ruger products for that very reason. The other reason I own a lot of Ruger products is that they're built STRONG. I've never seen an action fail or a part break, and the only foul they've committed so far has been the SR9 recall, and they fixed that before a calamity had a chance to develop. Between the two, I'd spend my money on the Ruger.

Bersa mags are expensive. I had a 380 and feel the slide is at the soft side. Bersa trigger feel is very nice.

Bingo, this along with what DeadHorrorFan says are the reasons right there why I would pick the Ruger.

I also have a weakness for overbuilt, super strong, and reliable mechanisms.

Never shot a Bersa, but I'm beginning to like my KP95. Eats anything and has never hiccuped. The only thing I really don't like 100% about is the trigger reach. I have long fingers and the trigger breaks pretty far back.

I wouldn't own either as well. If you want a cheap gun, buy one. It's your gun.
