M1A Scout shorty?

I was at the Springfield Armory Action Challenge yesterday, and they had a neat little rifle set up for shooting. Actually they had several, but this one really caught my eye. It was a Scout, but it was even shorter than their regular Scout. 16" barrel and what looked to be Express sights? I didn't think to ask what the model was called specifically. They just referred to it as the short Scout. Anyone know anything about it? It does not appear to be on their website...yet.

Oh and the M25 was freaking sweet too. Yesterday must have cost me around five grand over the next few months. :D

Wow - would love more information on this... how could they shorten it further? Seems the scout was already bout as short as possible....

OK, I went back today and shot it again (and again and again). The story from the guy working the booth, who is not a SA employee, so take the information as that, is that there are currently only five of these rifles in existence. The Action Challenge had three of them. They are due to be available to the public in six months...so I have a little time to save my pennies. It is a cool little rifle.

Well, don't keep us in suspence? How did it shoot? How was the recoil? The accuracy?

I can't really add too much to the write up link as posted by Sven. My own observations wer that it shot high at 200 yds even with the sights adjusted to the limit. Worker-dude told me that this was because its purpose was as an entry weapon but this did not ring true to my ears. .308 entry weapon? Little excessive if you ask me. Not that I have anything against excessive. :D

The range was set up with 1'x1' steel plates at 100, 150, 200, and 300 yds so 'real' accuracy testing was not possible. Once I managed to figure out that it shot high I was able to ring the 200 plate easily.

I shot the iron sight model about 10 times and the red dot twice. 5 rounds per, no jams. Not a lot of shooting but there you are. The Garand jammed on me twice in 20 rounds but I still want one.

Or four.

Anyone have any idea what sort of velocity you'd get with standard mil-ball out of a 16" tube?

And yes. I want one. No no. Don't ask why... that would just confuse me.

The City with the big 'gold' bridge. You mean the bridge in Sacramento, right?

I think I'm gonna have to git me one of them shorty rifles.

I really like the idea of the sights. I always wanted to put HK type sights on my M1A.
