I have been looking over the CMP pistol guide lines and all I can find is 45acp, 9mm,22 LR. Has the 38 been done away with? I take the online rule book to stand only for service pistol but I am unsure of it. So if you can help me please post.
GOD BLESS

As far as I know you can still use a .38 Special in the centerfire match. But you will then need a .45 for bigbore and a .22 for smallbore.

I think you are getting NRA and CMP matches mixed up.
22's, .38's and scopes and such are shot in the NRA Conventional Pistol matches.
CMP NTI and P100 is service pistol in .45 or 9mm. .22 for juniors awards.
Two seperate matches and organizations.
Edited to add: There are those here that know more about pistol than I. I am but a knuckle dragging service rifle shooter.

Howard, for a knuckle dragging service rifle shooter, you pretty much summed it up. :)
Not the first time there's confusion between CMP sponsored matches and NRA sponsored matches.
HANDLOADER, looks like you found the latest rule book from the CMP on Service Pistol (Leg matches, etc.) at www.odcmp.com.
The NRA has a downloadable version of the current NRA Conventional Pistol (Bullseye) rule book at their website, http://www.nra.org/ which gives specs for the pistols allowed in .22, Centerfire, and .45 matches.
The NRA holds their National matches at Perry just before the CMP conducts the National Trophy matches (President's 100, Leg match and Service Pistol Team match). Briefly, the NRA .22 match is usually held on Thursday, CF on Friday, .45 on Saturday, CMP matches on Sunday. There are also team matches for each discipline at the end of the individual matches each day.
If you want to attend everything at Perry you have to register with both the NRA and CMP. If you're only interested in the CMP matches, they're the only ones you need to register with.
