Cheap, simple bluing for shiny barrel bands?

I have an old (1913?) winchester 94 in 32 special. It's not in pristine condition, but it's certainly usable. Anyway, it has barrel bands that have a shiny chrome-like finish to them. Needless to say, they look completely out of place on the gun. I'm assuming somebody bought them later on, or perhaps took them and buffed them down to bare steel for some reason at one point. Either way, what is the cheapest, most simple way to get these un-shiny? A small bottle of perma blue? spray paint? dura coat? I've never messed with any bluing techniques before. I don't need these to look great, since much of the original finish is gone on the rest of the gun, I just need them to be blued instead of silver.

from the picture they don't seem to be shiny blue, they look shiny in-the-white. i think if they are devoid of rust your local gunsmith will charge yo very little to throw them in the blueing tank next time he does some blueing. probably won't match exactly, but will be much better.

It would appear they are most likely chrome plated.
If that is the case, nothing will blue them.
And the only way to get it off is reverse electroplating, or a bead-blast gun.
If I were you, I would pick up a Birchwood-Casey Touch-up blue pen (WalMart maybe) and see if it works at all.
If it does, go ahead and rough them up a little with some 320 grit black Wet or Dry emery paper to knock down the shine, and have at it with the touch-up pen.

Yeah, it does seem like they are chrome plated. I wonder where the heck they even found these things for a model '94. I can try a blue pen since they are kind of handy to have around anyway. Is there any type of spray paint that would adhere and hold up reasonably to metal like this? I think even a black painted barrel band would look more in place than these chrome ones.

An auto paint supply shop should have rattle can flat black trim paint which will stick to it. Just degrease properly.
