As a denizen of the Revolver Forum, 642 Club, my knowledge of AR and AK platforms is nil, but I am interested in learning. (Not to imply that other members of the Forum or Club are as uninformed, but I suspect I am not alone.)

A sticky in the Rifle Forum describing the anatomy and physiology and use of those platforms would be a great addition.

If the members and moderators do not feel that is a worthwhile use of space and time, are there any suggestions for other resources?

Thanks
David

while a thread would certainly help peoples understanding of these systems.

if we make them for AR and AK we would need to make them for any contemporary rifles, SKS & VZ58 , FAL, CETME, AR-18 etc. there would just be alot of threads ( or one mega thread) about alot of info readily available online

if some one, well versed in all thier operation, who is willing to post explanations and pictures for a variety of common rifle wanted to cover them, and then had approval to create a LOCKED sticky or a separate web page of there own. we wouldn't have any new knowledge that isnt on the web but atleast something resembling a one stop shop.

Manufacturers print owner's manuals, many of them available for free as PDFs, and others just for the asking. The ARs I have came with the military manual, which is plenty good. Beyond that, it's a matter of range time and some training. Many books have been written on the subject as well.

David, what, specifically, are you looking for? Loading/unloading, reloads, charging, sighting, etc?

The information is definitely out there, but I don't think I've seen it in just one place before. It's not a bad idea really, maybe I'll work something up for my site.

If you are interested in just the AR, Viking Tactics (http://www.vikingtactics.com/book.html) sells two excellent books on the use of the AR platform.

Thanks guys.

I am wanting to expand my knowledge and decide if I want to buy a semi-automatic rifle.

My affinity is for revolvers and levers. Smiths and Marlins.

But I want to at least peek over the hill at the other areas.

I have a couple of semi-auto pistols, but do not enjoy shooting them like I do the revolvers.

I suspect the semi-auto rifles will also be a distant second in enjoyment; but if I were ever to really need more capacity, ...

Revolvers and levers and side by sides are plenty for personal defense; but defense of liberty might need more.

On 9/11 as we remember the threats, it would be prudent to be able to help if the need arises.
