What should I expect? Will I be bored out of my skull? It's all day Saturday and a few hours Tuesday. The guy teaching it seems nice but 8 hours long on a Saturday seems a bit long. At least I only have to do it once.

i took mine in SC 4 or 5 months ago. the sheriff dept here is responsible for it. they did a blackpowder demonstration, let us shoot a .243, and let us use an 870 to shoot some clays, but overall it was boring, even though they were all nice guys. if you already know a lot of info on hunting then yes it'll be boring, if you don't then you could really learn some things. test was EASY, they went over the ENTIRE test in order before we took it. some little kids still failed though :p

Can you take the online class and then take the 4 hr followup class with an instructor near you? I did that last night. Only had 4 hrs class time. Cost $10 and I have my Texas Hunters Education cert in my hand.

Format and content of hunter ed. classes can vary greatly.

What is boring to some may be quite interesting and educational to others.

With our range being geared more for smaller groups, the only type of hunter ed. course I've taught for the last several years is the "home study" completion option. Even with it, however, there can still be quite a few variables from one location/instructor to another. We try to make it a good, fun learning experience - and portions a challenge for all ages.

Hooray! I passed and should get my card in 2 weeks. Now to get a job so I can afford a .308 or .30-06 (can't decide which yet) rifle and ammo to practice, then get hunting license and find a friend who hunts near Plano TX. Look out hogs! I want my baby back ribs! :) mmmm ribs.

Hugo, check out my web site link below.

- You should definitely consider adding a 22lr rifle to your arsenal asap. After that, a 22 pistol may also be in order.

- If you get a hunt lined up before you get a rifle, many people are willing to loan an old 308 or equivalent. I borrowed a 270 this year and nearly got a shot. Both my neighbors took deer as well and one was his first hunt / deer.

Good luck.
