What are your opinions on this shotgun? I looked around this weekend and didn't see any.

But then I heard that they were being made in Russia. Don't get me wrong, I have nothing against Russian guns, my closet is full of them, but if I wanted a Russian shotgun, I'd pay less and get one of those that are already imported. If you want a real Stevens SXS, it's pretty easy to find 311's in good shape for $250.

I'm thinkin its a Baikal with false side-plates-----better off just gettin the Baikal----if you are going for a cheapie.

The gun looks interesting. Maybe it is interesting to me, because the first shotgun I bought, as a lad of 14, was a Savage 311, 12 ga. Took a great deal of game with that gun. Still have it.
I was up in Dundee Mich., several weeks back, and Cabelas' didn't have any. Salesman said they have gotten a LOT of requests for it, though.
If, in fact, it is made in Russia, I do not believe I shall purchase one. Will have to wait for a Ruger Gold Label.

Savage has confirmed (think it's even on the website) that this IS a Russian made gun. i'm of the same mind, the russian doubles are just not my thing, i prefer the Stoeger (brazilian made) SxS.

oh and Good Luck, and hope yo have patience, with the Gold Label..... it's been what, approaching two and a half, three years since they anounced it?? and frankly for the price they are quoting, i simply don't need an americna SxS that bad (of course i DO have a 1935 Lefever "A Grade" in the safe)

Thank you Sir; looks like I don't have to worry about the 411. I had originally heard that the Ruger would probably be on the "street" for about $1400. But, it Has been a Long wait.
Back, after I purchased the old Savage 311, I had a wood stock put on it. It had a Plastic stock on it. I believe I shall sand that stock down to the dimemsions of my old Parker. Though I don't do that much shotgunning anymore, I shall be forced to give it a decent try.

Just got off the phone with a friend of mine who actually played with one. Definately a Baikal, says so right on the reciever. But he did say it was alot cleaner than any Baikal he had ever seen and a ton better than his Stoeger. So I may look at one when they come out in force, but for the same price I can buy another 311.

I was just thinking about getting one for something different to shoot other than the pumps or auto's. I'm just looking for a SxS without spending a bunch of $$$ and I don't want a complete junker.:)
