Okay, so I used to be an anti-polymer frame guy after some bad times with H&Ks that made me swear an allegance to steel and alloy... but thanks my new P-95 that I broke in today at the range, my outlook CHANGED FOR THE BETTER!!! All hail the late great Mr. Ruger!!! (bowing, waving my hands and paying homage) Ohh eee oo :D

I was anti-polymer for a long time. My USPs have won me over! I guess better late than never ;)

Good news!!! I am already converted since getting my P95 a while ago ..... and more recently P97.

I had reservations but .... (and not meaning to be a ''Glock-Knocker!) ...... I did have a thing about ''tupperware'' guns!!:D

The Ruger tho has so much ''substance'' and tho chunky and hardly the most beautiful thing on the planet .... does it ever perform??!

Love my P series ... cannot really say a bad word at all ...... and soon, when fall gets dug in and my outer shirt goes on ..... it'll be P series carry, right thru to next spring.:)

I have shot about 700 rounds through my P89 in the last two weeks.

Every time I shoot it, the trigger gets better.

Every time I clean it, I notice that the parts are meshing more smoothly. Slide action is slicker, etc.

It seems that the more I shoot it, the better it gets...

Pretty amazing guns.

I don't know about the newer guns, but my P89 manual has an ammo disclaimer that is unlike anything I've ever seen. It basically says that pretty much anything loaded to any US, NATO or European specs is good. NO caveats about lead bullets, subgun ammunition or +P ammo.

Im not Anti Plastic.... Im just Pro Steel.... :D

Actually, Ive been throwing around the idea of getting a smaller plastic BUG or such.....from what Ive looked at staying away from guns like those with "WAMO or RONCO" on them would be good.

:neener:  :what:

Rugers are shooters.....enjoy your gun.

Shoot well

The Ruger P-95 and P-97 are excellent values... I'm glad yours is proving to be a good choice.

In the world of autoloaders, I still like the graceful & classy lines of the HIGH POWER . And in the world of wheelguns, I still prefer blued S&W's .
But Glocks work so well that my hand has grown to fit them. They are still ugly though. :neener:

Considering you can buy a KP89 for $340 or so, I think I'd pony up the extra cash for the metal gun over the 95.

I'm going the other way - I think I'm going to ditch the Glock. Then I'll have a mess of steel guns and an alloy Sig. I just have a very strong feeling of "Oh God, what did I just spend all that money on? I have $20 kitchen appliances that are built the same way!"

Aside from any sort of ultra long term issues, I realize that a plastic gun can work just as well as any other. But you could make the same argument about polyester slacks.

So far all the torture tests I've seen give the polymer Rugers a considerable edge in durability and accuracy over their aluminum framed cousins.

It seems that the polymer guns don't have quite the reliability, but I think that's more a function of Ruger's QA droop than it is the design of the guns.

Are the plastic framed Ruger's really Polymer though? They sure feel different then the Glock's, XD's, Taurus, FN etc. I've owned.

I suppose you could call them a composite if you wanted. They're a fiberglass filled resin of some sort. I do know that don't seem to be as chemical resistant* as some of the other polymers, but seem to be tougher overall.

*Ether (starting fluid) will dissolve them... I used to use ether as a cheap solvent (ala Gun Scrubber) and found out the hard way that it makes a mess of the Ruger polymer frames. I noticed it before it did anything other than cosmetic damage.
