Depends on what I was doing with it. For a gun to build and shoot off the bench, The Rem 700 without thinking about it. For hunting, informal bench shooting, non-build gun, T3.
I had a Rem 700 for hunting and sold it because the safety won't lock the bolt shut. Had my bolt come open twice while my rifle was slung on my shoulder causing the chambered round to be ejected. I noticed it both times, but a worry I was not willing to have every time I hunted.
My T3 will shoot dime size three shot groups, is very light to carry in the field, and I like the short bolt lift. The biggest downside about the T3 is that it has next to no aftermarket. Many will complain about the plastic the gun uses for the bolt shourd and trigger gaurd, but usually that comes from non-owners. Overall I think it is a better out of the box gun than the 700 for hunting and recreational shooting, but that is just me.
Conclusion: I owned a 700, I own a T3

I sold a Rem 700 PSS earlier this year, and bought a T3, also in .308. The 700 was fun for a while, never a problem, but I never thought it was all that accurate, and it's heavy and bulky.
The Tikka is a tight, nimble little unit, and I'm not concerned with any aftermarket stuff, so I'm happy.

Whichever one feels the best. You know half the people on here have a 700 that shoots dime size groups, and the other half has a Tikka that does the same.

They're both perfectly fine. Can't go wrong with either.

I have had the 700, I now own the T3 in a 300 WSM. About the best rifle I have ever owned.

You really have to tell us what the gun is for. I would most likely go with a 700 though. They are solid guns, you can find used ones everywhere, and if you look hard you can get a great deal.
Tikka's are good guns too, but I don't like all the plastic on the gun. Nor would I like paying $60 for a magazine that I had to search long and hard for.

Send the gun back to Remington and they we set it so the bolt can't be opened with the safety on!

this gun is going to be for me to learn how to shoot long range so i want it to be accurate. but more than anything i'm buying it to become something i can hand down to my son.

Just bought a Tikka T3, beautiful rifle -
Absurd for a >$5.00 magazine to cost $60.00 to replace; and those flimsy turds will go bad.
Would like the T3 MUCH better with a hinged floorplate.
Lost a Remmy 700 mag (7mm STW) and was outraged at paying $45 for 2 STEEL magazines from the FACTORY.
Something happens to the pathetic Tikka mag - I don't think I'll EVER get another.

Remmy. I really like the Syn M700 SPS. the price tag is right. Shoots well. And like was said before it is a Remington 700.

Both are good shooters. I have a remington and a tikka. Would buy both again. If I could get only one, it would probably be the remington in a bdl or cdl. If between the SPS and T3 synthetic, I would go with the Tikka.

Tikka.
I have a Tikka T3 Varmint Stainless in .308. It is an incredibly accurate rifle. I'm a lousy shot and shoot .5" at 100 yards, 1" at 200, and 1.5-2" at 300. Here is a picture of a 5 shot group (with one flyer) at 300 yards that I shot today in pretty windy conditions. And again, I'm not a great shooter. In better hands (and without heavy wind) this gun will put 5 shots in a one inch circle at 300 yards - no modifications, just good handloads.
The bolt on the Tikka is smooth as glass and the trigger very crisp and easily adjustable. I have mine down to 2 lbs and love it. Also, the Tikka Varmint is about 8 lbs without a scope. That's still light enough to tote around and hunt with.

Every year I buy a couple new rifles. Every year I go through the same process as you are right now.
Then I sell a couple that turned out not to be my thing...
Find a place that will let you play with both for an extended period of time at one end of their counter. It may come down to which ever stock feels better to you, which one seems more balanced in your hands or some sort of plastic piece that you don't like.

Think that both are real good rifles. I have 2 700's because that's what I have been using for the past 20 years, and have had no problem.

I have had remington all my life 700 bdl synthetic stock with blued barrel, gun was accurate out of the box, last year bought a cdl model stainless , fluted with laminate stock in 30-06 man was I impressed in workman ship and the new trigger and r3 recoil pad.Two months ago I traded a smith and wesson model 29-3 nickel in the box, plus received cash for aTikka t3 in stainless in 300 wsm,had dealer put on a luepold vx-3 and boresight it .first shot at 50 yards was dead center in the black ,second shot right next to it ,this is the first and only rifle that did not require any scope adjustment, man was I impressed. Tikka guarantees one inch moa with five shots out of the box.For the money I would go with the Tikka regards Marc

I've had a couple of each and think you will like either, but I prefer the Tikka. FWIW, I have had problems with steel factory Remington mags (and their warranty/customer service sucks), but never with the polymer Tikka mags.

I own a Remington Model 700 CDL and like the Walnut Stock. I'm not familiar with Tikka rifles. Not really bias, just naive within my Remington's prowess. I'd never consider a black plastic stock because I'm too old to change. I do like laminated stocks, however. My Ruger Model 77 Mark II with brown laminated stock constantly receives compliments from others. Nobody gives my Remington a second look, even with its pretty Walnut. cliffy
